Video-R100Gs mountain roads Zach Exhaust System

You'd think that cyclist would have heard him coming!

I like the way that one of the cars seems to have pulled over to let the bike pass.

I have a small Gletter can on my 1000 cc G/S , working with a R80 style small collector.
As supplied it was simply too loud , and showed no advantage up my usual test hill over the Staintune G/S style can it replaced.

A classic bike style long baffle was obtained and inserted with most off the holes covered with a wrap of muffler packing.

Initially it was quieter than stock, and down a little on power, so the muffler packing was progressively unwrapped until performance was slightly better than the Staintune.

At this point it wasn't any louder than stock under around 4000 revs, and from then on it had a pleasing sharp burble rather than a flat farty excessance like the Zach.
Didnt pop or bang on the over run either.
So, on the day I found that more noise doesn't necessary equate to more power, and there is a point were more noise might actually be counter productive on a road bike.
Unless excessive noise is the sole criteria , and most of us got past that by the time we were done with the rattle in our pram!

For anybody who didn't open the link at the end of that enjoyable film. This is worth a watch and forgive me if it's another Hitlers BMW moment. ;)

Ah, that brings back memories. I did the Stelvio on my laden 1150GSA - It would have been a lot easier on the 100GS :D.

I seemed to have more traffic as well .

A good Vid :thumb.

Bob.

I can't say I was impressed with the exhaust note but it may be a combination of poor sound recording and iPad speakers.
