Are there any means by which I can reduce background noise (wind) whilst maintaining voice clarity on a video, and without buying expensive software?
I currently use WinMedPlayer, and whilst being able to do most things I require, adding music etc, I see no way of reducing other background sounds that unfortunately dominate, thereby totally ruin the video. The vid was recorded up in the mountains in the Alps, so you can imagine, pretty windy up there!

I would guess that the only cheap way of doing this is to dramatically reduce audio volume (Winmovie or iMovie ) , finalise and then re -edit and dub a new voice track, I'll bet that expensive software could remove wind noise. Most head cams are ruined by wind noise; using an external mic, positioned behind you or behind the screen improves things massively because most of us like the engine/exhaust noise.

I do this for a living.
You can't remove the wind noise. Even with expensive software the results are hit and miss at best. Good suggestions above^^^

Cheers fellas!

Grinning G ..... the footage was shot with camera shades, unfortunately with an ext.mic. Even though I wasn't on the bike, the mic makes it sound like it was blowing a right hooly up in the mountains of the Alps. The GoPro would have made a better job of it with it's mic/camera being housed in it's....errr... housing! It wasn't really the ideal time to test-bed the shades. Live and learn....

Smelly old boots is quite right. Recording clean audio onto your rushes can be an expensive "art" on its own. Worth doing if you need the clean track of your pipe or voice. Trail and error is the rule of thumb here. Most action cams won't come with a headphone jack for monitoring or have controls to allow you to "ride" the incoming track level.
