Guys, does anyone on here know where in Vimoutiers the Tiger Tank actually is?
I tried to find it on a trip a couple of years back, but never found it, it's not easy when you've a dozen other guys in tow, especially once they found the Patisserie in town:blast
Anyway, I'm going again next week with a group of seven guys, and will be passing nearby again, and would love to find it for a brief stop, but only if I've a better idea where it is in the town.
I'm sure someone on here will have found it:thumb2
Cheers
Hugh.

Thanks guys. Strangely I had done a google search, had found a piece on wiki about it but no map, and the coordinates didn't show where it actually was on google maps:nenau. I'd also done a search on here before asking but it didn't bring anything up either.
Can now understand why I didn't find it as I had been told it was in the town, rather than a mile outside!!
Reckon I'll find it this time though:thumb2

10 seconds with Google produces....

(Now I'm sounding like Wappers!)

A heavy burden to bare.

The really odd thing is that typing 'Vimoutiers Tiger' into Google is much easier and obviously quicker than tapping out...

With the added bonus that the time saved can be used profitably to read about the tank, which will be of great benefit when the eight of them pause to gawp at it, open mouthed and slack jawed in wonder. :D

Enjoy your trip :beerjug:

A quote from Wiki "It is thought the tank ran out of fuel on RN 179 between Lisieux and Alençon just before entering Vimoutiers."

I bet you it was a Sunday and none of the petrol stations were open. They really should have waited for a local to come along and use his card paying him / her with cash for fuel. Simple:D

You just have to face facts, you guys are just too clever:thumb2, I mean where else can you go to ask any question about any topic and get every answer possible in a matter of minutes:bow
Better than wiki you lot:augie:augie:augie

Have to admit I've never done the German cemetery, but I may be able to this time, I'm trying to arrange a guided tour of Grandcamp Maisy for the following day, and could probably head from there to the cemetery. I usually take the guys to one somewhere during the weekend we're there.
Half the group have been before, so I have to try and find some new stuff each time we go.

Of little interest to most...the Bayeux tapestry is not actually a tapestry......not a lot of people know that......:D PS... The Cathedral is far more interesting than the faux tapestry.......

I heard a rumour from the tank perverts that there is talk from the community of Virmoutiers having the Tiger brought back to working order......:popcorn

Done the tapestry back in about 01, just about the most boring thing I've seen in France:blast.
Finally got email back from Grandcamp Maisy, not going there now either as there'll be no one there to show us round. Guess I'll revert to the airborne museum at Saint Mere Eglise, think there's only one of this group that have done that before.
Actually I might do the tank museum in Bayeux, it's one I've not done as it's no ride from Arromanches.

What the !

May 1979 - Mojacar run. Coming from the overnight camp in Liseaux and heading south through Vimoutiers. Bocage then with narrow sunken roads, a series of climbing blind bends. Come out of a left hander and the Tiger is on the apex of the next right hander with the gun pointed down towards us. I'm still enjoying that moment. Pity they opened up the road as it has ruined the discovery effect.
