Not really a 'GS' thread, but someone might be interested.

The Central Scottish Section of the Vintage Motor Cycle Club (VMCC) are hosting their annual "National Assembly of Vintage Motorcycles" at Blairgowrie from Friday 15th to Sunday 17th August.

See them at the Sports Ground, Coupar Angus Road, Blairgowrie.

They have a number of 'road runs' with each bike being flagged away at (I think) one minute intervals (it lets the smoke clear between entries :augie).

The last time I was there they had nearly 100 entries and I spent a very enjoyable morning seeing them away.

I might go there on Saturday morning.

heading up to Fort Bill last Sunday I passed a group of "old shite" touring though Glen Coe.It was pissing down and they all had various types of home made luggage. The bikes looked grubby, well used and wonderful:thumb

It was really good to see the bikes being used for their origional purpose

I'll check the driven plate for wear and replace it if necessary.

It's going for its MOT next Tuesday so I can't wait days for parts to arrive.

I have to weld a plate along the bottom of one of the cross-members but otherwise the chassis looks fine.

I have just bought a 1998 Toyota Land Cruiser 'Colorado' as the old Land Rover is struggling to pull the larger horses that my daughters have now got - so the 88" Series III will be up for sale shortly (taxed & MOT for a year, very reasonably priced considering all the special bits).

I'll need to fix the starter first :D

New starter fitted and ring gear tidied up with an angle grinder.

I have thought about my K1200GT motor in the GS - same transmission and both engines are stressed members so should be possible.

Another 40 BHP and a lovely 'yowling' airbox . . . sounds good.

Sounds heavy :blast

Had 2 series 3s none of them as good lookin as yours though.:thumb

That's the third engine since I built the Landy (1996-'98). It runs fine, in fact its going better than ever now.

However . . . .

Engine No. 4 is waiting to be re-built just in case (note the slash-cut pipe) :D

I put it on the road in August 1998 - since when its covered 14,070 miles.

Its not worth spending a lot of money on, I could have bought a very new Discovery for what this thing has cost over the years. The old Landy engines are fine for 1,000 - 1,500 miles per year.

Plus its now redundant as a horse tug.

Its only used for towing as we run two diesel Ford Focus' as everyday cars.


I didn't make it to Blairgowrie. I hope Ron took some pics.

Chassis welding took far longer than I had intended (well, actually grinding off the rows of 'shark's teeth' took the time :blast) and I was still bolting the engine in at midnight.

Today it is all back together and running well. Monday's job is to check it over for the MOT before Tuesday.
