Anyone else on Virgin Media broadband?

If so, can you get onto Geocities (www.geocities.com) at all? Over the past 24 hours I can't access any of my geocities websites from any of the machines at home, but can from elsewhere. Makes me wonder if VM are blocking. :nenau

In my previous experience of virgin Media their DNS management is terrible. I found web sites came and went at random. So I found another DNS server pair to use ;)

I was an NTL cable customer and now use their ADSL service via a BT line. They have had intermittent DNS problems at times.

Hence, I use OpenDNS in addition to the Virgin settings. Go to https://www.opendns.com/homenetwork/start and follow the instructions. It's free.

Your Geocities problem is nothing to do with Virgin though. Geocities is now part of Yahoo. The url, from a google search, is http://geocities.yahoo.com/ - it looks like Yahoo have not placed a redirect from the old domain as the new one works fine here.

Thanks Wessie. :thumb

I can get the www.geocities.com top-level site (and all my lower-level hosted websites) OK from work, but not from home, so it does point to being a VM issue. I think.

Helpful techie at VM has confirmed that they've got routing issues at their end, affecting Geocities, Facebook and others. Ticket number 811124.

In other words: "just like torrents, we are throttling connections to popular domains because we have inadequate infrastructure to cope with peak demand"

all ok

Im with Virgin Media broadband and followed your link ,opened up with no problems. Hope thats of some use :thumb2
