I am suddenly getting mail from friends saying they think i have a virus?
I run the AVG which has always been active. I have run a full scan with no bad stuff showing.

Where do i go from here?

Thanks

If you know the email content they're getting, paste it into Google adding the word Virus and I'm sure you'll get a few suggestions how to fix it.

Try an online scan such as Trend Micro Housecall. You could also install and run Malwarebytes and see what that throws up.

HTH

Both are throwing up nothing just like AVG.
So i am wondering what to do next:confused:

It might be something outside your control, such as a computer somewhere else sending emails with a virus and using your name as the originator of the email. It seems to be quite a common problem, but until someone spots the rogue computer and shuts it, or its internet connection, down, you're stuck with the problem I'm afraid.

Your friends need to read the headers of the email so see where they are coming from. The headers will show the originating ISP and if it isnt yours then your in the clear. There are so many email clients out there that I cant provide instructions on how to view headers but get them to google viewing headers and their email client.

Go into your AVG settings and schedule a boot scan that might pick something up if in fact anything is there.

Most likely, someone else is unwittingly spoofing your email address as they have a virus on board.

I stick a non-valid email address into my address book. If you receive a bounce message for that email address then you know you have malware on your system that is sending emails to everyone in your address book.
Something like [email protected] would do it.
