Visit Wales

Hello GS riders,


I want to visit Wales in the month of Mai and I am looking for some beautiful small roads ( off road also but not the muddy ones).We drive from South to North Wales and back.
We stay two nights in Bala.Somebody nows a nice campsite , a place to gave a good meal or a nice pub?

If you have some info please send it to me.

Take the B4391 out of Bala, about .3m from the lake you'll see a sign for Lake Vyrnwy - follow it.

You'll arrive at the North end of the lake. At other other, near the dam, you find a couple of tea rooms.
Starting were you arrived at the northern end and moving clockwise, after 2.7m you'll find signs for another tea room [Lake View?] with a great view of the lake and dam.

You can return to the southern end of Bala lake from Lake Vyrnwy using the other small road from the North end of Lake Vyrnwy.

I think this would make a fine late afternoon ride from Bala with an evening meal at the Lake View cafe.


BTW.

A lot of people on this forum know Wales well, you'd stand more of a chance of reaching them if you'd post again in the 'Travel' section.
I think this Wales forum is meant to allow Welsh GSer's to arrange local meetings.

Ok give me some advice to make a nice trip(if it is possible with road tires)
I do have Ordnance Survey ,travel map 1:175000 or a GPS Garmin SPIII.

Look at the route maps/route details for the Mid wales weekend and use some of them. I used to be a Wales off road guide and can advise you on GS off roads tracks if you wish. Send me a PM if needed as i do not want to release these on the general threads.

Bob Jeffries will also know many tracks for a GS.

Where are you gonna start from and do you want to finish on the Great Orm in N Wales.

How about Mumbles Head or Pier on the South end and then a route N from there to the great Orm cafe. Then you have pretty much done S to N. Route N will be through mountains etc and the return can be along more of the West Coast if you like.

Hallo Andy,
We arrive in UK on thursday early in the morning and have to leave Sunday evening.So we have four days to stay in Wales .We want to start near Chepstow Castle, then North up (the Great Orme is ok)Then back South to the M4 near Newport .We prefer to drive on the small roads in the mountains and the national parks.

North wales local

Hi Daniel,
There are some cracking road in and around Bala,
I ride a few regularly. I dont have GPS so couldnt check your route, but I can certainly say.. stay off the A5 as much as possible, its heavy with traffic and the police, and its not exactly exciting to ride.

Some Road to ride :
B4401:
A well under used road, with two 30mph zone, but some awesome scenery.. Starts from the A5 near Corwen, and then cuts through some absalutely stunning valley sections with a lovely bridge over a river near a saints cross, a great place to parkt for lunch.

B4501:
This road is intwo section starting near bala or from Ruthin with a short trip of a few 100'sm on the A5. Very twisty and great fun, with some more stunning views and generally good tarmac.

A4212: is a nice road but keep and eye out for caravans. Popular in the summer, has some nice sweeps.

BIg Tip: North Wales has one of the most, active anti speeding police forces going, so best to cruise and enjoy the views.

What about the B483 and B482 they had me grinning from ear to ear last weekend. Then headed out of Wales on the A44 to Oxford another great road. I will be back!
