Aaaaaagh!

Your advice and opinions would be much appreciated.

My son's laptop is running Vista home premium and is pretty standard.

He uses a website called "Runescape" (http://www.runescape.com) which is some sort of social / game site.

On my own machine running XP, all is well and the site works. On his machine running Vista, when trying to enter one of the "worlds", I get this message:

"Your security settings do not allow websites to use Active X controls installed on your computer. This page may not display correctly...."

Now, I've been into Tools>Options>Security and have basically enabled all Active X control - to no avail. I've even relaxed the privacy option, but still no joy.

This problem isn't unique to this site, I've come across it before with this machine. I've never had to relax any security option in XP so can't really fathom out what to do next.

Any ideas?

Cheers....

Is it a Dell PC?

I supply Dell PCs to some of my customers, and one application I have uses an ActiveX app to control a remote Sony IP camera. For some unfathomable reason recent Dell PCs will not allow this particular ActiveX to run. Changing the security settings etc. has had no effect, updating Internet Explorer etc. has had no effect. Dell themselves were no help. In the end I gave up with IE6 and 7 and installed Firefox for this particular use. Everything then worked fine.....

Forgot to say my problems were with Dells running XP Pro, but I suspect that Dell have a particular way of installing Windows that somehow restricts the types of ActiveX controls that will run.

Try allowing the Pop Up blocker to run ActiveX activities.

Steve - can you tell me how to do that? I've gone into Tools>Options>Pop-up blocker settings but can't see anything mentioning Active X.

Cheers

Tomcat

I run Firefox on my XP machine so your suggestion is great and could well be the solution I should pursue, except.....when I've tried to download Firefox, I get:
"Your security settings do not allow......"

Aaaaaaaaaaaagh!:spitfire:spitfire:spitfire

This whole security setting thing on Vista's IE is beginning to really wind me up. Can anyone let me know which settings I need to change to allow various wbsite access and how to download files plse?

Anyone?

At all?

Please?
