Wanted: New boots recommendations

Altbergs ... nothing else comes close for the price, and after sales service, well apart from the comfort :thumb2

I suppose a personal visit to the factory where they are made is another bonus if your are from up north.

+1 :thumb

So, have you got yourself a set yet ? Or are you waiting for the sunny spring ?:aidan

They're fine, as far as they go but it's time that they brought their levels of crash protection into the 21st Century. I used to swear by my Clubman Classics, but the world has moved on.

I've just bought a pair of Oxtar Space boots. I reckoned that my Sidi Flexforce SRS were a bit too heavy and bulky to take across the Atlantic in my luggage later in the year. At c. £100 a pair, the Oxtars seem like a good compromise between price, size, weight and protection.

Hi Bananaman, which Altbergs do you have ? I'm thinking of getting a pair, and guess a trip to Yorkshire is required (I'm a Mancunian living in Cambridge, so I'll take my chances in Yorkshire !!) :augie
Are they waterproof, and comfy for walking short distances (sightseeing etc )?

Sorry to jump in :thumb2

Hogg All Weather is the boot that you're on about. I have a pair and the are brilliant. Yes very waterproof, guaranteed, very comfortable for walking long and short distances. kinda like a mountain boot for bikes. Altberg supply an awful lot of specialist footwear for the army and the shop normally has army types in when you go there.

If going by bike, take the cross country route...lovely scenery. They do a specialist fitting for you but be prepared for a wait, the have a very full order boot. You might strike lucky and they have a pair in your size on the shelf but even so, well worth the wait and the money.

You can't go wrong with these :thumb

Hi Pog, thanks for the info - I have managed to find a used pair of Altberg for a great price. Just hope they fit OK -if not, they'll be up for sale .....

I know they may not be the "latest hi-tech" kinda boots, but I love the idea of them coming from a genuine (albeit Yorkshire ) English bootmaker. So, I'm eagerly awaiting the postman next week ! Sadly, now lacking an excuse for a ride to wildest Yorkshire !
