What have you done up until now ?? (off road)

I have done a little green laning, and can get myself in and out of trouble quite happily.

I know basics I think. But would be willing to take further training if fun dictates it. I know I crash well if that counts?

I entered the Cambrian a couple of years ago, but ... I did it on a 450. I think I'd have probably struggled on a GSA (that I had at the time)

The liaison sections are easy and would be no bother on a bigger bike, but depending on the event, some of the special stages become a bit more technical.

Not sure if its the actual competitive events that you're interested in, or whether you just mean getting out on a GS (:nenau) and getting it dirty. One of the best trips I've done was a trail riding holiday on a GSA in Spain. I absolutely loved it and am itching to do the same sort of thing again ...

I don't mind competing but it'll be more of what I can do rather than competition if you follow me.

The Spanish trip looks bloody brilliant, I'd definitely be up for that if a trip is coming up or being arranged. (in fact I'd prob be up for recce if one was happening too, I love exploring)

Rally look fun too,

Have you tried the Rydale Rally? I have done this for a few years but on a KTM 400 and most of it is not super technical just a bit rutty and muddy, some forest tracks, tricky downhills that sometimes have ride arounds and not really any deep water. It is part of the big bike rally series and it is really friendly and non competitive. Two days based around goathland and cropton/dalby forests, plenty of videos on youtube if you want to take a look and always has some big GS's / HP2's / KTM adventurers / 690 dakar etc.

As already said take a look here http://allterrainrallychallenge.co.uk/forums/. I did most of the events last year on a 690 and the year before I had a crack on a 950 (never a fuckin again), and this year i'm on a new 690 built up as a full rally spec bike. Have ago at the easier events like the K2 or the Borders Rally, both are doable on most bikes, and if you like it signup for some of the harder events - :blast

Hi Ferrol, what will you be riding. If you are on an 1150 I have a few bits and bobs that might be useful. The Rallies are challenging on a big bike if you are relatively new to off roading, but easy on anything with one pot. They are very lax on rules (eg start times for the stages) and have a great fun vibe, especially if you camp. Best of all you get to ride fast on forestry tracks you often cant access at other times.

Check out 'the Spanish biker', I can recommend the Aragon HISS for big bikes - relaxed, good fun atmosphere and well organised. you can can go all day off road but no competition.

@Mike F: Am on F650gs twin with a few mods (Engine bars, sump guard, upgraded spring in forks)

@gspod: Will have look, thanks

Hi Ferrol,

We are running rallying events in the UK (RallyMoto), we currently run the All Terrain Rally Challenge which would not be suitable for a GS type bike - BUT we are running the RallyMoto Cup and roadbook navigation series that has a specific Adventure Raid route, which is doable on a GS will Tourance type tyres - this is mostly a fireroad / gravel tracks route.

Check out the first rally - Pikes Peak http://allterrainrallychallenge.co.uk/pikes-peak-navigation-rally/

edited: removed dumb question. :-)

Roadbooks.... now these are interesting indeed...
