Can you afford £360 less than a £ a day?? or can you take that gamble,decisions,decisions:toungincheek:confused::thumb2

I faced the same dilemma a year or so ago. I chickened out and went for it.........I have to say that I have had no reason to claim in the past 12 months though.

It is a bit like an insurance policy I guess in as much as, if you need it you are glad you had it and if you don't you wish you had saved the money.............Oh for 20/20 foresight.

It did give me peace of mind last July when I toured The Pyrenees, but then so would have AA european cover I guess.

I have to keep it up now because if I don't you can guarantee that something costing a humongous amount of money to replace/repair will go wrong the day after I cancel it.

Sorry.......no 'rocket science' answer for you.

I'm going for it in October. I'll barely notice £30 per month but an FD failure will probably put me off the road for 3 months. Just because you've had one go, doesn't mean that it won't happen again Jim.

I always have fully comp insurance with protected NCB for the same reason.

Hi Jim

http://www.warrantydirect.co.uk/bike-warranty.html

I went with these people last year when my warranty expired. I think it came in at around £230 for the year. Also I seem to remember the excess being dirt cheap; some thing like £15!

They are one of the biggest in the country but I can't say how good the service is as I had no reason to make a claim.

If you do call them quote 'BMW club' for a deal!

All the best

Tom

Be careful with these insurance warranties and make sure you read the small print. They will not pay claims like the BMW warranty and will wriggle like feck:eek:

The beemer one just about mirrors the original factory warranty and is worth the extra im my opinion:thumb.

Spot on!

I took out Warranty Direct cover for our Mercedes E320CDI estate. When one of the injectors went, it wasn't covered. Unless your engine blows up, WD cover is useless. Waste of money.

I just signed up for the BMW extended warranty today, having checked the fine print. On the basis of all that's gone wrong so far with my GS, I went for the £0 excess option :).

I ditched the warranty and dealer servicing. That's saved me what - £360 on the warranty I never claimed on, £500 for the 24000 mile service, £200 for the 30000 mile service and whatever a 36000 mile service costs, due around next month. So that's over a grand. OK - I spent a bit on tools and service items, but by shopping around (my oil is £2.80/l etc) I've done ok. I still recon I'm around a grand better off. And with a tiny amount of effort, you can service a GS in a morning.

And if anything big happens, I know where Steptoe lives. :)

Feck it looks like I had a lucky escape then:eek:

AA Parts and Labour is another option. £75 a year. Up to 5 claims a year, max £500 each and £25 excess. I got a special introduction for a couple of months till the end of my AA membership which expired at the beginning of April for £16. My battery failed two days before the end of the time period and just got a cheque in for £70 odd which more or less pays this current year's fee. Not as comprehensive as BMW insurance and doesn't include Europe Cover, but something else to consider.

Full AA cover & Parts & Labour for £150

A new FD will cost over GBP1000 fitted. Mine was done at 3 1/2 years as a goodwill gesture on the basis that I paid the labour. That was better value than the extended warranty. The OP has had the fuel pump controller and final drive replaced already, leaving only the ring antenna as a known weak spot. I didn't bother with an extended warranty and, assuming the bike has a full dealer service history, wouldn't encourage anyone to pay for one.

yes bmw warranty

if only for the final drive peace of mind

my 2 failures would have cost a friggin fortune, in the end had a new complete new rear end fitted, thank you bmw

flog it and get a new one...full 2 years again.....simples :comfort

My OEM warranty just ran out on my 08 GSA. I'm not extending it. I will also be servicing it myself (as I have all my other bikes over the last 30 years). From the pot of gold I will have after the first year I will buy any specialist tools I might need and should the final drive fail I will buy a new one and fit it myself. I feel confident in my abilities to replace such items and if I need a GS911 I will buy one of those to. I plan to keep the GS for another 4 years or so and doing 12K fun miles a year would be saving up to a grand a year. I like working on my bikes - it's part of the attraction to me so don't see it as a chore. The difference in residual value on what will be a 6 year old bike will be minimal especially since I'm an anorak about keeping my own service records and receipts. IMHO of course.

I am with WD on the SAAB (taken out last year), last month 2 sensors went on the car . WD approved the work to the cost of £800. I have the top level cover so no excess. At the moment I am ahead , they are out of pocket by around £350.
