Just had this warning from Jim at Rydales:

Brake caliper bolts

If you are thinking of fitting new tyres to your bike or have just had a new one fitted, please read this.

We have recently seen BMW bikes with loose or missing brake caliper bolts.

All these bikes had one thing in common - they all recently had new tyres fitted to them by 'a n other' tyre fitter.

The caliper bolts are usually removed to make fitting easier and to avoid damage to the disc, pads or even spokes. Whenever the caliper bolts are removed it is extremely important to make sure they are tightened correctly (to the correct torque setting) and checked when they have been refitted.

Most good tyre fitters will do this....did yours? The consequences of having incorrectly fitted wheels, tyres and brakes really don't bear thinking about.....

If you have tyres fitted to your bike, please make sure that they are fitted properly and that the caliper bolts are tightened correctly. If you are in any doubt or you would like us to check your bike please call Jim on 02920 550 300.

This is the second post with a quote from Rydales about tyre fitters.

Cynical old me thinks that there may be a conspiracy at foot.

I am naturally suspicious of any tradesperson that operates by slagging off the opposition.

Warning from Rydales

Hmmmmmmmm Ming lost a rear caliper bolt on the xmas rideout, and he had his rear tyre changed the day before:confused: don't think there was any serious damage though-was there matt?

I do know of someone who lost a rear caliper bolt, and the caliper "turned over" onto the swing arm-made some nasty gouges:mad:

Recently changed the rear tyre on my own Adv,fitted by A.N.Other tyre fitter,I thread locked the bolts before torquing 'em up-so far o.k. but I'll check 'em just in case Thanks Retro;)

Wessie you're right to be cynical,as I'm told Rydale have just had the latest tyre fitting rig installed on the premises:rolleyes:

Go check your nuts:D

Just passing info on, Dave. If there's even a shred of truth in it then its worth checking out.
