was only carrying boxing gloves, head guard and pads less then 2kg in total,
went over a pot hole and heard a crack then the top box came wizzing past.luckly was not carrying a passenger.

Lucky it didn't cause an acciedent.

When I bought my S10 last month I had Givi Trekkers fitted. Interestingly the dealer removed the Yamaha plastic carrier and bolted the rack directly onto the metal base.

I wonder if this is an upgrade?

I have the Givi rack and E52 and the install required the removal of the Yam plastic rack, Givi one is all steel same as above

Do you have the early placcy rack or the recalled part ? the difference is more webbing on the recall part and a steel bar running up the middle front to rear?.
ps the silver top plate is for show only, and the black placcy bit (the one they modded under recall) is really only designed for the yamaha top box. Most after market toboxes use a replacement rack mount specific to the s10. That said I fudged my xt660Z HB mount onto the yam one though the HB mount is a steel plate so I've effectively strenghted the orignal one (silver cover removed)

The plastic base is almost a cover for the more sturdy plate underneath and not designed to have top boxes fitted onto.
I know this as I asked about this yesterday whilst at Yamaha HQ in Weybridge, the fitter said he wasn't surprised it broke as it's not designed for that.

Hi folks,

I fitted the spangly new aluminium Givi plate to mine. I love the look of it and it is more practical than the original Yammy one or the plastic Givi one. It is large, solid and has good lashing points.

Looks very nice, what are the boxes I can see on the bike?

I posted recently about breaking the support brackets on the Givi plate on my 1200. I had a 46ltr box fitted and used the bike mainly for touring, meaning that the box was often loaded with heavyish maps, tools and camping kit and subjected to thousands of miles of variable road surfaces. Eventually the bolts holding the brackets sheared. Luckily I noticed before I lost the whole box/plate and had the bolts drilled out and replaced before I sold the bike.

Appreciate that your box wasn't heavily loaded at the time, but the biggest problem of having one of the larger Givi boxes is the temptation to overload them and, over time ....
