Have just received my Zumo 550 through the post and despite checking with Garmin as to compatibility with Macs, the Mapping DVD can't be read by (you've guessed it) a Mac...:spitfire

Called up to find out what the score is and been told that "not all the features are available to me" and the DVD isn't compatible. Right now I can't load French maps. Which was the reason I bought it!!!!!

Then they send me an email to help me transfer my map files to my Mac. But you need a PC to do this too....:mcgun

Anyone got any clues on this? Otherwise I may be selling a brand new Zumo...

quite fancy another...

Garmin still have a ways to go before I'd say they support Mac's... but you are lucky.. they don't support Crays at all...

Al...

Had a similar problem with my 550 deluxe when I bought it 3 months ago. However you can download POI Loader and Web Updater for Mac from Garmin, so at least you can get it to update. Had to use my Dad's pc however to install my extra maps to an SD card. Can only suggest you maybe try a nice friend who owns a fiendish pc!!

You could always buy a cheap laptop to run it on?

What am I saying???....... as a Mac owner, you'd proably find it easier to sell the Zumo.:D

I have considered this too. SWMBO would quite like a laptop to play with because "You spend too much time looking at that bloody bike forum":D

I've just joined the darkside and switched to a Mac and ordered Parallels Desktop as part of the package to let me use Windows software if required.

Have been able to load Mapsource and it works fine so far.

Didn't it come with all the European maps pre-loaded? Mine did...

i just bought a TomTom Rider V2 - v good Mac support indeed. plug it in, mounts on the Mac Desktop and comes with all the software / drivers on the device.. didn't even need the cd.

Couple of options....

If you've got an Intel Mac, the simple way is to just fire up a copy of XP either through boot camp or it might even work through parallels.

If you don't have an Intel Mac, the other way that might work is by using 'Guest PC'. There have been reports that Guest PC works better than Virtual PC and so solves the Garmin interface problems.

You might also want to have a quick look on MacWindows.com. :thumb
