My 2 year Warranty expires on 1st June. Need to get it in before then as fuel gauge started messing around but before i book it in is there anything else i should be checking?? Have had the front engine cover replaced and the fuel filler cap surround cos of corrosion. had its 2 year service and runs and rides sweetly, partly due to the new metzler exp tyres :thumb2 Anything else i should check???

Have a look at your front wheel at the point where the brake disc is bolted to it.

I've noticed corrosion of the alloy under the paint it the junction of the wheel and the disc after just one winter.

Just cleaning my 06 yesterday....notice water in rear light lens......then notice one screw missing from lens. I removed the remaining screw.....When I took the lens off the light housing, lots of little piece of plastic fell out.....These piece of platic, were the part of the light housing that my 'lost' screw should have fitted into...

I have had the 'bike from new.....rear lens never been off before, so screws not over tightened (by me) etc etc......The 'bike is well maintained....immaculate condition....no corrosion/EWS/Fuel pump controller/Gearbox seals leaking, issues whatsoever.

As has been said before......A completely s**te quality back light unit.......:spitfire

Worth a look......:)

You'll soon receive a letter offering you extended warranty at something like £600 for a year.

Don't laugh. Consider it seriously.

Wish I had...! :blast

Just received a letter from BMW for extending the warranty for a 3rd year £334 with a £50 excess…

Mind you scrap metal prices have climbed massively in recent years....worth considering?

upper limit on mileage for extended warranty?

extended warranty from BMW is around £350 now.......(big price drop)

i have just extended mine into the 4th year, (bike is just over 3 years old) and did not hesitate, i have had loads of stuff replaced under warranty, had i paid for the replaced parts / labour i am sure it would have been loads more than the money i have spent on the warranty.

i don't do as many miles these days (trying to work within cycling distance of home when i can) - my 1200 has 63,000 on it, but £350 ish is less than a starbucks a day over a year so still worthwhile IMO.

BMW park lane tell me i can continue to extend it year on year up to 100,000 miles....... previously i thought the limit on extended warranties was 80,000 miles, but Park Lame BMW are convinced it is now 100,000 miles.

thanks for all the 'USEFULL' advise guys, anyone got anything sensible to add??

Front engine cover (not the plastic front end but the bit that is bolted to) noticed some "bubbles" by one of the screws - got them to change that before it expired.

Go over it with a fine tooth combe anything corroding or peeling - send it in for a new bit.

I did'nt bnother with the extended warranty - taking my chances and following the service plan. 44,000 miles and all's well (so far!)......

Documents still say 80k.

Paid for my warranty last week, £310, with £100 excess. :thumb2

Slightly off topic I know, but my 05 1200 GS also has some corrosion on it around one of the lower bolts. When I asked the dealer about it he explained that this was common in most BMW's some are worse affected than others - should I insist that the dealer replace this under warranty before it runs out in Nov? or live with it? Is it likely to happen again? I have tried all types of corrosion inhibitors such as ACF50 and FS365 but without much success in this area.

No this is on topic....It's very common that they have to change it under warranty as well! Don't let them blag you off and calmly tell them to change it....NOW:mcgun. You have paid for it and they have a duty to replace anything that perished before two years (notwithstanding abuse!!!).
They tried to palm me off as well about a small bit if blistering paint...said don’t bother then and I’ll just write to BWM and complain...they then changed their tune and did it:clap. Mind you there was only 2 days to go under the warranty!
You paid top dollar so get what’s yours......:thumb

Front engine cover replaced under warranty :thumb2

Dam, reading this thread made me go and look at mine.............and sure enough there are little 'bubbles' in the paintwork around the bottom of the front engine cover just below the plastic cover. It can't be salt as due to the winters here it is not really possibe to ride when the salt is down. That means the corrosion is just due to water??:blast

I really thought that by now these corrsion issues would be gone - I can understand maybe if riding on heavily salted roads..............but no salt and still corrosion?

Anyone else in the US had a new cover under warranty?
