well be picking up our 54 plate gs from the dealer in a couple of weeks.it comes with one years bmw warranty.can you extend the warranty when you buy it or do you wait until its nearly expired?which would be best?

If it's got less than 80 000 miles you can extend it AFAIK.

About £350 a year, but depends on engine size, including break down recovery. Details are in the finance bit of the BM web site. They'll probably contact you near the end of the years AUB warranty.

I know that when I had my K1200GT I received a letter before it expired inviting me to renew the warranty for the following 12 months.

I am sure the cost was way over £350. In fact it was nearer £600 so I declined the offer and sold it!!!!!!!!!

Forgot the say there was a lot of discusion on the K-series forum regarding the warranty renewal.

One comment was that if the warranty offered by BMW was a 'Worldwide' warranty then why not take it out in either USA or Australia as the cost in either of these Countries is way cheaper than England. I just looked on the BMW site for USA and it is 395 US$!! and I think it maybe even cheaper in OZ.

Warranty extension

Looking at my letter from BMw right now and the cost is £294 for up to 750cc and £334 for over 750cc. Includes Emergency Service and a £50 excess charge. Up to 80k miles. You have the option to remove Emergency Service. You must extend before the current warranty runs out.

That sounds really cheap.

Maybe BM have reduced the renewal costs but I had my letter to renew the warranty for my K1200GT last October (2007) and it was £650 that was for 12 months warranty and the breakdown cover.

Maybe the GS is cheaper to fix!!!!!!

Pretty sure this to do with teh change to insurance policies and possibly level of takeup. It is called the BMW Insured Warranty Service.

If it is around the £300 mark then I would take it up as you will be using it a fair few times during the 12 month period so will probably save you thousands!!:D

IF they have wised up and reduced the cost of the extended warranty it would be well worth it for having the piece of mind especially if your doing big mileage and on European travels.
