At the end of this mucky winter I intend to give my Streetguard Jacket & Trousers a well overdue clean in the washing machine. I have bought the proper BM washing kit to do this but I havn’t washed this stuff before. Anyone know if you are supposed to treat Streetguard or (Tourguard – same material) gear with the reproofing spray that comes with the kit?

Hope this info helps!

I use Nikwax products, which are very easy to use.

1. Wash the garment with regular stuff (there may be something about not using biological powder) with the synthetic cycle.

2. Wash with Nikwax Tech Wax on the synthetic cycle

3. Wash with TX-Direct Wash In on the synthetic cycle

4. Hang to dry

5. You jacket should now be bloody brilliant.

Thank you to the Lady at Nikwax for giving me these instructions as I was struggling with the spray on TX-Direct stuff.

Erm......the streetguard has gortex inside it, so probably not.

I washed mine on a normal 30 degree woollen wash with normal Ariel, then tumble dry it on 'warm'.

(this from the Gore web site;)

The most effective way to maintain your Gore garment's water and stain repellency is to wash it, rinse it, and put it in your dryer. The washing removes contaminants and the heat from the dryer helps redistribute the DWR treatment on the fabric surface.

BM's Streetguard cleaning instructions attached. I haven't quite mastered scanning into small files so I hope the attachment is readable.

I have used Nikwax Techwash on my other suit and it is excellent.

I was also wondering if the Streetguard could/should be sprayed with a water repellent . Anybody have a definitive answer?

Paul

There's no problem washing the kit, but I'd forget about the BMW £20 washing kit.
I do mine regularly with a normal non-bio product and then re-seal it with the nixwax TX stuff (£6.99) after every couple of washes.
I find the bottle of re-proofer in the BMW kit is barely enough to do a jacket once, never mind the pants as well.

Thanks for your replies everyone (& the tip on the armour schiannini;) ). Some useful information to ponder. To attempt to clarify though, I am going to try & get the official line on this one. Will let you know if I have any joy...............
