Can anyone tell me what is a good UK product to waterproof my one piece stitch?

Cheers :nenau

use the Nikwax techwash and re-proofing as for a gortex jacket.
Available from your local Millets or Cotswold hiking/camping walking type shop.

Will re-proof well and freshen up but doesn't clean deeply.

Don't scrub too hard as it roughens up the material (DAMHIK:augie).

When washing do close all the velcro strips or they tend to fluff up and loose their stickiness.

cheers

Tech Wash for washing, Nik Wax for reproofing.

Do not be tempted to wash it in normal detergent as it will effect the breathability of the fabric.

Keep to the specified temperatures in the machine.

Nik Wax also do a spray on Tent and Gear solution which I found helped the areas round the zips.

Tips..

Grangers HERE Do a range of alternative proofers if you happen to find Nickwax doesnt do the trick for you.

i just used the nikwax tech wash and tx direct washin for my twat suit but it doesn't seem to have cleaned it that well even though I followed the instructions to the letter. Anyone got anything better? Could you use a normal detergent first, then the tech wash and then the txdirect?

For my not Twat Rallye2 I just used Persil

Added a bit of Comfort so now at least it smells good :D

Can't really see it making much of a difference as the Gore-Tex liner is separate anyway. :nenau

As this is not the case with the Stich I'd say you'd need to be a bit more careful :)

Best way to wash and clean a Stitch, is natural soap flakes i.e. LUX that's basically what Nikwax sell in concentrated form. Its then up to you whether you then wash in TX Direct. I found just by washing in Lux and then tumble drying (on low heat) seems to be the trick for re juvenating Gortex. For anything like deep grubby stains in anything i.e. a twat suit you need to wash with a detergent, which will get the stains out but then leaves a wetting agent which is part of the detergent deposited in the garment material (the wetting agent is the ingredient which allows washing machines to have low temperatures and economic washes).

Try this test, something that has been washed in detergent but is now dry, drop a spot of water on the material and see how quickly it spreads i.e. not waterproof, drop a spot of water on material thats has consistantly been washed in natural soap or the more expensive TX Direct and you will find the spot of water just beads on the material.

Anything I have that I deem important for protection against wet weather i.e. camping/hiking/motorcycling equipment all get washed in Lux.(Fabric conditioner must not be used ).

So now having washed your garment in detergent, you now need to wash the wetting agent out of it. You will now need to wash that garment minimum five times in a natural soap.Dont forget the important bit seems to be "tumble dry". Large box of Lux is probably a couple of quid and lasts a long time. Dont put the same amount of Lux in the washing machine as normal wash powder or you will have bubbles everywhere. (if you do get lots of bubbles put some salt in washer). Boots Pure Soap Flakes are as good as Lux.
