Got a WC booked for a long weekend tour of the Alps in a few weeks. I use a TT map case and tank strap on my 1150 as per the pic. Does anyone know if this will fit the WC? Anyone using one? Ta.

Anyone? Or maybe its just me who still uses maps to navigate?:augie

I'm looking for a TT or other map case for the LC!:rob:D

Well buy one and tell me if it fits then Rich! I'm sure it can be made to fit with gaffer tape and cable ties but it would be nice if it's a straight secure fit:)

Haven't got time to visit a dealer before the trip:(

Me too!

I'm thinking that I might get a SW Motech Day-pack micro tank bag and SW Mo-tech map case to go on top, or a GS tank bag with map case.

The motech bag uses the locking ring which allows for quick removal when filling up and prevents any scratches to the tank, however it does leave an unsightly locking ring around the filla neck when the bag is not being used.

The BMW GS tank bag however, looks very smart is cheaper and comes with a map case, but attaches with straps which can risk scratching the tank paintwork, I don't know what kind of faff it is when filling up!....
A dilemma! What have you got?

I use a zumo sat nav, but I also like to have a map to get more acquainted with the area that I'm driving through, it kind of gives you the complete journey, where as the sat-nav seems more destination orientated

I didn't realize that there might be just a simple map bag a available!

I have the BMW small tank bag which comes with rubber pads under the straps, so no risk of scratching the tank.:thumb But, I've just bought a Wunderlich handlebar bag, which wont fit with the tank bag, so a map sleeve would be handy.

I'm looking forward to just riding the bloody thing all weekend rather than dithering over luggage, and spending time on here!:rob:D:beerjug:

Will it fit?

The easy answer is, yes.

By the look of your picture it ties around the headstock and then somehow or other ties on under the seat / rear of the tank / across the frame. It is hard to imagine that it won't fit just about any motorcycle.

I bodged (quite neatly) an Ortlieb mapcase, (designed for some hairy socked hill walker to hang around their neck, so a million miles away from a rufty tufty motorcycle) onto a VFR, a Blackbird, a 1200 GS, a GSA, an HP2, a 1600GT, an RC30.... an 800R.... an HP4... all without any help...

How and why? Because I didn't worry about it, nor did I have anyone to ask…… Even if I felt the pressing need to; which I didn’t. I just looked at it and worked it out.

If the worst comes to the worst:

(1) What are you going to do if it doesn't? Cancel your holiday? Of course not. So, don’t hesitate, fit the bloody thing or at least try.

(2) Buy some heavy duty Velcro tabs and stick it onto the tank.

Enjoy your holiday.

Thanks for the advice Wapping. I'm sure anything can be made to fit but it would be nice to know that it fits without issue. The last thing I want is for my map case to blow off and fall down a mountain - that would be a royal pain.

Either way, I'll be finding out this time next week and will report back.

I have the large BMW tank bag, which is not actually that large. Certainly smaller than the one that I had on my R850R. It has a map pocket on the top, which is accessed from withing the bag. The bag itself is shaped to fit the tank and I am impressed with the quality of the bag and how it fits. It also comes with a detachable shoulder strap, so you can take it with you, should you wish, when you go walkies.
- I can recommend it

And the answer is - "kind of". The TT map case just about fits the WC but the straps are a little too short and the tank harness has to be removed to fill up so not really ideal. I'm sure TT are working on an alternative. Ruined the entire trip:augie
