be warned ...

Don't put your winter coat away just yet. Forecasters predict cold weather and snow will return.

The spring-like weather that has bathed the UK in plenty of sunshine for the last two weeks will be replaced by a cold spell and unsettled conditions, forecasters predict.

After one of the warmest winter on record, by this weekend the UK is likely to see temperatures drop to 0°C, along with rain and strong gales.

A Met Office forecaster says that from Sunday there is a risk of snow over the higher ground of Scotland and northern England as unseasonable temperatures take a tumble.

There will also be a chance of wintry showers in the South East on Tuesday.

On Saturday, widespread temperatures will range between 4-8°C before dropping off on Sunday, with a minimum of 1°C in the North and 4°C in the South.

News of the marked change in weather comes only a week after “T-shirt Thursday” where a top temperature of nearly 19°C was recorded in Coleshill, near Birmingham – the highest since 1880.

On Tuesday, the mercury rose to a balmy 17.4°C in Durham, North East England. Parts of the UK were hotter than North Africa .. two weeks ago as the mercury rose to 19°C.

“Exceptionally mild conditions were caused by warm air from the tropics and South Atlantic. But, the wind is expected to change direction bringing in colder air from the North and West and changeable conditions.”
