Job Title: Web Editor

Department: UK Community Team - Marketing

Reporting to: Community Director


The Web Editor is responsible for aiding the Community Director in the development and maintenance of gaming website(s). This role requires a mix of journalistic, creative and technical skills to help produce websites with engaging content that deliver high volumes of traffic. The aim of the role is to create website(s) and email campaigns that identify our market, to write creative articles relating to our players and to acquire new customers and retain existing ones within the online gaming community.


* Develop and maintain the brand website(s), creating a site that uses engaging content to generate interest and product sales for the product portfolio.
* Take responsibility for updating and maintaining the website in an accurate and timely fashion.
* Select and edit copy for the website from content produced by the editorial team and provide original and innovative ideas for copy.
* Provide technical assistance and support to internal customers, editing the product specific mini sites where appropriate.
* Assist in Marketing activities and email campaigns.

* Maintain or where necessary, create standard operating procedures.
* Under the guidance of the Community Director / Art Director, ensure that the website documentation is kept up to date and complete.


* Liaise with internal departments and staff, ensuring that schedules are established and adhered to and that lines of communication are kept open at all times.
* Attend departmental meetings and contribute where appropriate.
* Communicate any issues or potential problem areas to your manager as soon as the y arise.

Major Challenges

* To attain a good level of knowledge of GameVilllage website Content Management System and to be able to work creatively and effectively with it.
* To extend the ir knowledge of appropriate web, video, audio technologies and to apply this knowledge when creating and updating web pages.
* To contribute to an efficient department by applying knowledge and techniques gained in one area to o the r work projects.
* Web Editor to perform a variety of content management tasks as well as handle editing of online content for distribution to a national audience.
* To work remotely and liaise with staff abroad via Skype, email and Messenger software.

Must have skills and abilities:

* Ability to hand code in HTML (and associated web authoring languages desirable)
* Ability to produce excellent online copy with a consistent house style
* Perfect English spelling and grammar
* To attain a good level of knowledge of GameVilllage website Content Management System (CMS)
* Knowledge and understanding of web standards and accessibility issues
* Awareness of blogs, forums and social networking applications and how to use the m

Desirable skills (in order of importance):

* Adobe Photoshop
* Adobe ImageReady (or similar image optimisation software)
* Adobe Flash
* Adobe Freehand or Illustrator
* Adobe Dreamweaver (in addition to excellent HTML skills)
* Video and Audio editing software

The Ideal Applicant

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, managing and editing online news content in order to create innovative web pages, blogs, e-newsletters, audio and video.

This new role requires an individual with a mix of creative and technical skills. Applicants should have experience in designing and maintaining websites to a high standard and be able to provide examples of the ir work. Some commercial experience in a similar role is expected and a good degree in a relevant field would be advantageous. The Web editor should also have strong interpersonal skills, good attention to detail, and an ability to work well without close supervision to meet strict deadlines.
