 Help Please. For the last three days most attempts at opening a page, take for ever. An exception is ukgser!!!. I run XP, Explorer six, a thing called Incredimail for Emails which also threw a wobbly yesterday. I have twice reset the Puter to a previous date, 01-09-03 and this helps for a while. I regularly delete Cookies and Messages in I/net Options. Is there anything a novice can do? or do I take the lot back (still under a sort of Warranty "Well Sir, It's all your own fault, not the System")

Could be something "naughty" running on your PC such as a virus?

I would recommend investing in Norton Internet Security or similar package that contains both a virus scanning package and a firewall. You could of course download a free firewall package such as ZoneAlarm (www.zonelabs.com) but if your system is running slowly on the Internet it might take an age to download.
Similarly you could try one of the free virus scanning services such as the one McAfee offer on their website (www.mcafee.com)

When this is all sorted (assuming it was a virus) make sure you keep the virus patterns up to date and also run Windows Update frequently to get all the latest security patches.

Another check

If it was ok 3 days ago, think back to what you were doing that day, did you download and install any software that uses the internet. change any settings etc. Could just be something you have done and not realised it.

GO to www.stargazer69.co.uk & down load the two patches, unfortunatly you have contracted one of the two Viruses doing the rounds it is not to bad to get rid of. What it does is use up all your memory when you are on line slowing everything down.I assume you are using XP as this looks to be the target software. if you don't have any joy grt back to me as I have some other fixes, You will need to get a decent firewall/antivirus Norton Inernet security 2003 is good'
Best of luck :banghead:
