I've been thinking about doing a little off-roading, and not really knowing where to start. Never done any before, and I got to thinking that there must be something near me in Basingstoke that will allow me to get started without having to travel too far.

I encountered this website that seems to show Byways open to all traffic, and is managed / updated by the council, so it should be accurate (hopefully).

http://whereilive.hants.gov.uk/rightsofway/WebForm1.aspx

Now I know it's winter and not a good time for a novice to get started, but at least it will give me some ideas of places - for when the weather brightens / dries up. (it'll have to be dry as I'm currently on tourances :augie

Apologies if this has been piosted before - but I'd not seen it.

Cheers

Your lucky the OS maps over there are riddled with 100's of miles of BOATS you'd be lucky to find half a dozen in Somerset.

Thats a fantastic thread, right I'm in the mood for some winter trails.

Wow, that is a fantastic thread. Thanks for pointing it out.

I was just getting started plotting some of the local routes into mapsource, and then read the thread. Great pictures, indication of difficulty, and start and end points already provided for me.

So that's got me in the mood for a trip today........ but being a virgin offroader, I think I had better take the sensible course and wait until the tracks dry, and the weather warms up. So I've got something to think about until the spring arrives.

Cheers

Dave,
I have only tickled a few BOATS around basingstoke in the summer and am keen to have another go but was always worried about getting stuck and not having someone to help pull the gs out. Do you want to meet up one day and have a go? I live in Sherfield on Loddon.

Mike
