BMW shop and myself are puzzled by a weird noise (some sort of mellow rattling) that can be heard shortly when the bike is around 1800-2300 tpm (Usually from first gear to second, and only during acceleration ).
When we change the screen position (from max high to mid) the noise vanishes, but it does not seem to come from the properly attached screen...
They will keep the bike for a full day trying to understand where this damn noice is coming from...

Any ideas ?

Hi, I also experienced an unusual noise at certain revs and also battled to find the origin of this noise, actually a sort of hum with a weird echo to it. I eventually found that the right side hand guard was vibrating against the braided brake cable at certain revs, it was a strange sound because it didn't sound as though that was the area the noise was coming from, glad it wasn't serious

Hi Cat,
It maybe the screen, had the same problem with mine. Took me ages to figure out where it was coming from. It came from the front mounts on the screen. They are quite a loose fit in the pivot holes. I cured mine by taking off the front mounting pivots and sliding a small 'O' ring onto the shafts. When you replace the pivots, you have to push them together to get the screws in, this gives it enough tension to stop the vibration.
Worked for me ;) :D

I had a similar problem. It went away when I removed the hand guards

How about the oil cooler grill rattling in its slot???

When I had a similar noise, I went round the whole front of the bike with little bits of blue-tack making sure everything was gummed down...although my noise turned out to be coming from a fractured engine protection bar (cracked at the mounting point, ADV O.E kit, replaced under warrenty FOC), the Reyno oil grill was making a small amount of noise.....

My grill is still now damped by a very small rolll of blu-tack lying along the track it sits in....totally invisible but does the trick nicely.

:D

Thanks guys ! Tomorrow is Tobinator's day and the noise will have the right to remain silent...

BTW the blue tak idea is uber smart, thanks a lot for that one :thumb

I guess it was coming from the screen because my tobinators just fixed that too :D
