Well an Iphone, not a computer

I've set my Iphone free using Cydia and then Yellowsnow, I'm now using it with vodafone, the only problem I have, and I say 'only' it's pretty annoying, is that I can't get it to work with 3G, any ideas would be welcome! everything else works fine.
Its one of the new second gen ones.

Is 3G a generic standard? or does each operator use a different band as in GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 for phone signals ?

have you set up your 3g account details

The settings you need are:

a) Tap Settings > General > Network > EDGE
b) In the APN field, enter: internet (for Contract customers) or pp.vodafone.co.uk (for pay as you talk customers)
c) In the Username field, enter: web
d) In the Password field, enter: web


also under Settings>General>Network, you must have data roaming switch ON, also turn on 3G for super-fast mobile internet!

Assuming it's a 2nd gen iPhone? The 1st ones were only 2G and EDGE.

Yes I've done step a) only instead of Edge it says Cellular Data Network.
but b) c) and d) are the same.

I've got the 3G turned on.

The VPN is not connected, does this have any relevence?

there is a an Add VPN Configuration option

behind that option is:- Add Configuration with a choice of-

L2TP or PPTP or IPSec

then under that option is this-

Description..required

Server....required

Account...required

RSA SecurID on/off . off at the moment

Password

Secret

Send All Traffic on/off . on at the moment


and yeah its a 2nd gen one

No VPN is not needed it is only for remote access connecting to say your company network. I will do some more digging
are you on contract or pay as you go

Vodafone 3G Settings

They should be the following -

APN = Internet

Username = web

Password = webs

It also may be how its been unlocked ! I would recommend these guys - http://www.iphoneunlockuk.com/ You pay once, then all upgrades are free after that..

Thanks Alan, Tried that with no success so might well take your advice and pay some money out, out of interest I used Cydia and Yellowsnow
