Picked up the ltd edition adventure last thursday , did a hundred miles locally and then decided it was time for a proper ride.
Mrs egg was running the Ballater 10 (local road race) on sunday so we went on the bike , she had a very good race , 5th with a pb of almost a minute
After the race we had a wee picnic and then a run up over the lecht to Aviemore and stayed the night in The Cairngorm hotel , very nice. Roos Leap has now opened in the railway station in Aviemore , top scoff and very friendly staff .
Monday morning , up to Inverness and then on to Ullapool and a stop for coffee. Now the big bit , we set off north from Ullapool and headed for Durness , got there in time for lunch at a place called Mackays at the south end of town , very nice soup and sandwich.
The next bit from Durness to Tounge doesn't look far on the map but takes forever , nice views though , then on to Bettyhill and another tea stop before carrying on to Thurso to meet our pals who we were staying over with. We all went out for a meal to a place called The Bistro , another fine meal
Tuesday morning and we get a bit of sun , so off we head to John O' Groats , I've lived in Scotland now for 25 years (originaly from Yorkshire) and Mrs egg has lived here all her life and it was a first for both of us , obviously very touristy and 20p for a pee , extortion
Down the coast through Wick to Helmsdale it started raining , between the huge tank (£28 to fill it ) and the screen the weather protection on the GS is excellent , very little rain hits the rider and the passenger is protected by the rider
We carried on down to Inverness and stopped for a coffee and a nibble , then a wee shoot down the A9 to Aviemore then the wibbly road to Pitlochry and up the hill to the Moulin Inn for the night.
Wednesday . a wee run over to Crianlarich and back , then home over Glenshee with a final coffee stop at The Hungry Highlander in Braemar and then back to Aberdeen for tea time , a 900 mile round trip , hose the bike down and crack open that beer
and watch Valentino do it again , Sete must have cried all night.
Now I suppose I'd better phone the dealer and book a 1st service
