Went to the Concorde auction yesterday...

...determined to find something I could fit to the bike. Don't ask me why - seemed like a good idea at the time - and it still does! Came home with the Cockpit Voice Recorder control panel. Now I've got to fit it somewhere - and maybe even put it to some practical use. As you can see it's got a headphone socket and a pair of switches, of the sort that have to be held down in order to something (I think). Maybe I can route my intercom through it? Or my MP3 player?

So here's one potential location...

Try again....

Whatever lights your candle mate, can't see any earthly reason why I'd want somthing like this stuck on my bike though

Well you're no fun....is it raining in Nottingham or something?

No not raining mate, sun is shining. In fact your pics cheered me up no end. Have you any other aviation parts attached to the bike yet or is this going to be the first?:D

The first and probably the last...I bid for the landing light as well...would have made a fantastic spotlight. But £700 seemed a bit much. Plus it was 20 cm wide, weighed a good 30 lbs and wanted a 115v power supply. Beautiful bit of kit though!

How much did the nose cone go for?

They didn't have a nose cone, but the pitot probe went for £3800.

Believe it or not that was regarded as "sensible money". There's been one previous Concorde auction, organised by Bonham's like yesterday's one. The first one was massively hyped by BA (for charidy), the world's press descended and the bidding went bonkers. A CVR thingy identical to mine went for £3,500. Yesterday's auction was a low profile thing with just a couple of dozen Concorde bits in amongst lots of old car stuff. So my CVR thing "only" cost me £340. I'm trying to convince myself it was a bargain. It was certainly better value than any of the unused Touratech goodies that I've stashed under the bed...

I would have quite liked a Machmeter for the bike, but £2400 was about £2000 over my limit!

Oh dear, my new toy seems stunningly unpopular. Vern, are you out there? I want a flattering binnacle for it. Money no object.

No Problem

I'm just waiting to take delivery of an 8x4 sheet of unobtainium, that was used to make the wing flaps of concorde. It's uncuttable, un bendable and un weldable, but I'm sure I can make something out of it:D

Seats?

Does anyone know if the passenger seats came up for auction (the updated ones, not the old grey ones)? I worked on the ergonomics of the seats for the interior re-fit and would love to get hold of a seat pair.

Hang on, I'll get the catalogue....don't think so. They had a pair from aircraft 002 in orange and brown cloth, and a pair in "half-leather, in need of some restoration." ISTR they were grey - yours sound a lot more modern?
