Well that's the plan anyway. We've been talking about it for long enough so Carolyn and I are going for 4/5 days in May. :aidan

So we're looking for tips on hotels, restaurants, touristy things to visit etc.
We are flying and not planning on having transport so the more central the better.
All advice gratefully received.

We might even manage lunch or dinner with some local Tossers :D

Not really any advice except take a HUGE wad of cash - you'll need it.

We went in Nov and 1 pint of guinness and 1/2 stella was 10 euros :eek:

You won't really need transport as Dublin is a great walking City with plenty of buses, the LUAS (tram) and Dart (train).

Indecisive of this Parish went a couple of weeks ago - do a search and amongst the p*ss takes you will find plenty of recommendations :thumb

There are a couple of those hop on, hop off bus companies touring around the city which are canny and i`d also recommend Bewleys Oriental Cafe on Grafton street for a nice lunch ;)

Gallaghers Boxty House in Temple Bar - fantastic traditional food. If it looks full, go in anyway, there's loads of room in the cellar!

i have some, get to the ferry terminal and get a ticket to a nice hot sunny place in europe hahahahaha

few nice spots in dub and wicklow for bikes, also small country so 2-3 hours will get you most way across the island

Hi there,

My wife and i went last year and had a ball, such a great place and the people are really nice. We didn't use the usual tourist trips as we found it much cheaper to do it ourselves and the buses are really easy to work out.

We went to Kilmainham gaol (Jail) really good morn/ afternoon, definately recommend if you are into the historical side of things. We did the obvious Guiness factory tour, which to be perfectly honest we wouldn't do again if we went back but if it's your first time in Dublin I suppose you have to go......Bit of a tip though, as you go through the main entrance and queue upto pay, the stairs are in front of you. Don't bother paying, just go straight up the stairs as so many people did as we were paying!! All your ticket entitles you to is a free pint of Guiness when you get upstairs (hardly free as i think it cost about 35 euros for 2 of us!!!) The Guiness is expensive in Dublin but not that expensive!

We had a trip up the river, this was good and the tour guide was very informative and interesting, a good way to relax for a while after all the walking you will be doing.

The final trip we did was a Ghost tour on an old double decker bus. This was an evening trip (around 22.00hrs). It was very apt as it was damp and windy, the mad irish bloke who told the ghost stories was very good and also very knowledgeable, especially whilst walking around the grave yard!!!

You will be spoilt for food in Temple bar, there are so many restaurants, with food from around the world.

All in all we had a great weekend and would recommend Dublin to anyone, although as has already been said it it quite expensive.....but hey, your on your jollies:aidan

Regards
Lee.

Bring Plenty of money :)

stay out of the city centre for food and beer. Head to rathmines (couple of euro in a taxi) for good food and cheap(er) drink. When in Rome.

Having said that Mc Daids pub on Harry Street (off Grafton Street) is worth a visit for a pint of Guiness and to see the statue of Phil Lynott outside (pub in the photo is Bruxelles- opposite Mc Daid's - still good but not a patch on the Guinness)
