I'm currently planning two centre East n West Northern Spain incl. Picos. Threads here seem to have plenty of reccommended hotels close(ish) to Santander/Bilbao.
Any suggestions for Hotels in the Oviedo Area ?

I stayed several times in Ribadesella.
Close to a string of beaches and on the Northern edge of the Picos.
I didn't use the bike, but I found great roads for the bike as well as trails in the Picos.
There are two hotels right on the Santa Rosa beach.

further more or less expensive hotels.
I like the small town with easy access to North East & West Picos.
Plenty of good food and drink too.

If you're going a little further south the hosts at this place were wonderfully enthusiastic about their surroundings:

We found all of our places by searching for Casa Rural which is a scheme for rural B&B's rather than staying in larger towns, I have a google map of all the places we stayed here:

The only places I wouldn't go back to were in Madrid and Santiago del Compostela

Hope this helps

Thanks for this , what was wrong with Santiago ? A few members of our group are interested in going there, looks like quite a big city tho'
I imagine getting a hotel with reasonably secure parking is a problem.

Elvie and I spent 4 nights in Santiago de Compostella a couple of years back. It's a lovely city, and we had a great time. We didn't have any rain which seems to be pretty exceptional as most peeps seem to get wet. We stayed in the Hotel Miradoiro de Belvis, which is about 300 metres from the Cathedral. We parked our bikes on the patio just outside reception alongside the managers 650 Gs. Perfectly secure.

I think he has just gone to somewhere like Tripadvisor or Michelin and printed out a not insubstantial list of possible hotels for you to look at via an Internet search. I guess it's called a bit of self-help? Is there nothing on the list that catches your eye or are you completely reliant on where others might have been?

It is very unlikely that anyone will tamper with your bike or steal it. Just secure it reasonably well and everything will be OK. If you are really worried, call the hotels to ask if they have a garage, chances are someone will parlez l'englesi. It's all a part of the rugged fun.

Absolutely, I too can go to trip advisor or similar. Generally tho' this board has folks who have found good & bad experiences, If that knowlege is shared it's good.

Of course travel adventures are fun - but would you book in somewhere that had been experienced as crap ? If you had the option would you ask first ?

OK, share with us some of the good hotels you have used over the years. There is a section for it.
