I don`t think i`ve ever had a motorcycle repaired after an accident apart from in my very early days when i remember all i did was to get a quote from a dealer for the damaged parts (cosmetic damage only in that case) and fit them myself after submitting a claim against the third party.
What is the process now?
Do no dealers repair bikes anymore, they are all farmed out to `repair specialists` such as 4th Dimension?
ie: Honda dealers do not repair Hondas, BMW dealers do not repair BMW`s etc...?

Moved, so as not to derail the claim of the century.

make a decision on whether to claim from your insurer or go direct to the other party's insurer if they are at fault

your broker will try to get you to go to their partner organisation, usually 4th dimension as part of the bundled insurance package you purchased. Presumably the broker will get a kickback. Avoid.

the actual policy underwriter will allow you to choose your own repairer as King Rat has done. This might mean some of the add ons from the broker's package will not apply as they would be provided through the deal with 4th Dimension e.g. a fully funded hired vehicle. You might want to deal direct with the underwriter rather than the broker or claims handler to remove a layer of bureaucracy. Exactly as King Rat has had to do.

ie: Honda dealers do not repair Hondas, BMW dealers do not repair BMW`s etc...?

they will and do. Many of the big dealership chains might have their own body shop but some will sub-contract the job out. More so for cars and vans. The biggest problem is getting bike dealers interested in the job and fitting it into their workshop schedule.

At the end of the day it is still your bike do not be bullied into using 4th Dimension , I know three people who have and they all had issues (they are to put it politely a bunch of lying , chiselling , f*cking shysters ). If you want your local dealer or a reputable dealer (who are able ) to carry out the repair tell your insurer that.
If they try and force you into 4th Dimension usually with veiled threats of long delays in having assessors attend to assess the damage (4th Dimension usually take a minimum of three months for basic repairs) tell them you are recording any conversations .

Also beware of 4 th Dimension pushing loan bikes which run the bill up by £1000's and in the case of one I knew the Insurer of the offending vehicle point blank refused to pay the £8000 plus bike hire bill and he was left with threats of court action to recover the costs

Absolutely. You want someone dealing with this who has your best interests at heart which is definitely not 4D, they will see you as a means of making money on storage, hire bikes and repairing the bike with their mechanics with possibly dubious levels of expertise and experience. You want the bike repaired by someone you know and trust and you certainly do not want it stored in Esher miles from where you live. You pay your premium to the insurance company not 4D and make sure you let them know it.

I had a fire in my Campervan and was passed onto 4D by Devitts who were the Caravan & Camping clubs insurers at the time, the van was still usable(we finished our trip) absolutely F*****g useless to deal with, complained to the C&C club and Devitts and in the end dealt with Devitts direct, gave a shit review on the ever present feedback emails you get and got a call from customer services saying I caused the problems by wanting the guy who built the van to do the repairs!! The initial assessor they sent even suggested that the fire wasn’t really accidental FFS, he was quickly put right by the company owner.
