i've loaded routes onto my 2610 created by gazza for a trip to skandinavia, 13 routes in all.

when i try to activate them on the gps, 7 load up fine but the rest give this old favourite message

wozzuphx0.jpg

i'm using v.8 software, gazza's using v.8 software.

i'm using Mapsource Version 6.10.2, gazza's using Mapsource Version 6.10.2.

i've loaded the whole of skandinavia mapping & i get the error. i've selected the maps around the route & downloaded them to the unit, same result.

i have a vanilla 2610, gazza has a nav II, but they use the same garmin maps don't they?

i've recalculated the routes on the pc & reloaded gps, tested it on first route it worked, so i did it for the rest. that didn't work :(

running out of ideas and i don't have long to get it to work, any ideas??

The onle time I had this message on my Quest was due to fact that I had missed a tiny piece of road out on the maptile selection and it was trying to route on the base map for that area.

Why not hit ‘use it anyway’ and see where it goes? (take a look at the route on the GPS, I don’t mean ride it) It might no be a problem…

'cos it does things like this

that's just an example, it doesn't seem to know where the roads are exactly.

as you can see, it's on the "detail" map so the requisite map must be loaded :nenau

The message you see appears whenever there is a version difference between the maps used on the PC to create the route, and the maps present on the GPSR when the route is activated. The version of MapSource you used to create the route has nothing to do with it - in this context, MapSource is a red herring, so forget about it.

There could be a number of reasons why there is a map mismatch, even though you think (at first glance) that you are both using version 8 cartography. Here are some things to check:

1) Read this post, which discusses the difference between CN 8 and CN 8 NT: Question: BMW Navigator III running City Navigator NT+ V8

2) Maybe Gazza has the exact same version of CN 8 on his computer as you do on your GPSR, but when he created the route, he had another (earlier) version of CN selected and active in MapSource? Or, perhaps, he had another map product altogether active in MapSource, like WorldMap? Remember, if you have more than one map product installed on your computer - as you will have if you have ever upgraded from one version to another - then you have to look at the little drop-down menu in the upper left corner of the MapSource screen and make sure you have the desired version active when you are creating routes.

My guess, based on looking at the picture directly above (which shows the route not overlaying the road properly) is that Gazza had WorldMap active in MapSource when he created the route. Now, why would Gazza bother spending money to buy a WorldMap CD when everyone knows it is at least 10 years old?

3) Maybe you have more than one map product loaded on your GPSR, and you don't have CN 8 active?

Try those suggestions out, see what you find.

michael, thanks for the advice.

we both have v.8 not NT

he's sure routes were created in v.8 + i've tried them out on v.6, v.7 & v.8 and some of them work in 8 but nothing seems ok in the earlier versions.

i'll check on the world map idea.

cheers

Unfortunately I don't have Worldmap only ECN V6 and V8. The routes were only created when I had loaded V8, specifically waiting for V8 to ensure the routes contained the latest mapping. The only other mapping I have on the gpsr is the BMW Motorrad overlay showing dealer locations, but I suspect that is totally irrelevant.

maybe i should have mentioned earlier, but all 13 routes were in one .gdb file. i've now seperated them out, individually re calculated & re loaded the 2610 & it all seems to work :thumb

can't be 100% that the routes are identical, though they seem to be.
