Hi people,

Age old search for the best oil for my 1150GS in the lovely color of blue and white. I’m currently using Castrol GP and have no complaints, but would really like to go the synthetic way. Now my question is I’m finding this in various product information sheets of different oil manufactures “API Service SG, SH, SJ, CF, CF-2, CG-4, CH-4, CI-4 JASO MA”, and I do not have a clue as to what all these letters mean; so could anyone point me to a web site which will shed some light on this code. Any information at all will be gratefully appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

:)

What Google was invented for.....

...............finding stuff like this:

Enjoy..............;)

BTW: Castrol & BMW recommend Castrol Superbike which is a fully synthetic engine oil, which I used in my 1150RT for 12k miles with no problems whatsoever. They also do a nice fully synthetic gear oil (MTX) for the gearbox & final drive.....quite hard to get but all available from here:

Cheers

Whats the mileage as you do not want to put synthetic in there until the 12k mark. Could go GPS at 6K but why bother as it will not run itself in on synthetic. Go to 12k and THEN go onto synthetic if you want. Why not just stick with GP and change it more often?
