What are the rules for riding around Salisbury Plains?

I'm living in Basingstoke, and riding 1150GSA. So not the lightest of bikes to get started on.

I won't be going off-road till things dry up a bit, and I also need to get some better tyres (for off-road) as I'm currently using tourances, which I find great for the road, and from what I hear are OK for simple off-road stuff. Hence waiting for the 'dry'.

I will be looking at the maps, but GPS tracks are much easier to read (no map reading). Yeah I know - lazy.

certainly looking forward to the tail end of spring, to use the bike in its full glory .

Cheers

Although there are several "muddy" byways around the plain, there are also plenty where you only need a couple of windy dry days for them to be reasonably Tourance friendly.

Thanks Clive, I'll have to take a look then.

Went to town yesterday looking for a map - but they's sold out. Apparently there's been a rush for Salisbury Plain. Just my luck.

I took a ride around there today, just using back roads, and the area looks fantastic. So when I get my map I'll be looking for some of the dryer routes.

Cheers

Go for an OS Explorer 130 & 131 :thumb

just remember everyone has a right to be out there

No you do not. In the Danger Areas or where the red flags are flying you must not enter. You may feel it is a minor inconvenience but it could lead to the essential training of Service men and women being curtailed, who will require such training to protect their lives, and the lives of their colleagues in a war zone.

Such attitudes may once again lead to calls for public access to such areas to be withdrawn.
