Just curious what is your opinion on the best back protection with a twat suit, :nenau

I tried on a rally2 jacket and felt a bit vulnerable round the waist as Im used to wearing a BMW back protector2 and feeling the kidney section keeping my sixtypack tight.

So.....my question is...:jibber

Do you leave as is /trust and use supplied protector in suit
Do you /remove the twat protector and use the BMW back protector2
Do you /use both and ring the bells in notredam?
Do you/ use a.n.other back protector with out twat protector in place
Do you /wait and decide after fall No1 with rally2 B.P./ or fall No2 with bmw2 B.P. (ouch!)

answers on a post card please..:type

If you're planning to do quite a bit of off-road, I would recommend going for a body armour jacket to go under your twat suit. Jacket based elbow armour is classic for rolling in a fall, leaving you to get bruised. DAMHIK :blast

Going with seperate armour also means you can wear a range of different jackets or even crosser jerseys which are great on the warm days.

I went with the BMW protector jacket but there are a range of alternatives available

To my mind that's far better protection than the little piece of foam you get in most jackets.

And, as Mav says, the full protector jacket when off-roading

I agree with jockser,

I wasn't sure if this was the right choice but I certainly felt better protected for road runs with the soft-foam rally2 backprotector out and the bmw back protector2 with the waist band and hard plastic on instead.

Mind you, I thought the elbow and shoulder protection on the rally2 felt reasuring for any possible impact

however is it the thing that the rally2 jacket is more suitable keeping cool in warm climates & for a low speed offroad impact

and perhaps rally2 is not as geared for faster on-road spills ...

(I would expect given the BMW quality brand and price for the rally2 jacket to offer 2nd to none all-round protection and comfort)

..I did not think elbow armour etc.. would roll inside on a fall as MAV suggests or have I picked him up wrong?

For road riding - I think the elbow and shoulder armour is good and I would be ok with the back armour. For next trip I'm considering using my Rallye and I would go with just the internal armour for pacticality. Compared to many jackets, I think the armour in the BMW gear is great.

But for off-road riding where the falls are frequent with impacts from a range of directions - the armour can be more prone to being in the wrong place when you need it :blast This is from personal experience :( Of course, the frequency of falls are directly related to how much (and what type) of off-roading you're going to be doing.

So:

Just road riding, you'd be okay with as is armour but could consider proper back armour.
Doing road riding and a few green lanes, would recommend going with the back protector
Regular off-roading on a regular basis - seriously consider getting yourself a body armour jacket.

Sorry if I confused the issue :blast Hopefully it's clearer now :thumb2

Theres a lot of different & practical preferences to Armour & back protectors, and designs,

The word of mouth personal experience rather than the marketing blurb is more valuable and an education to the novices (me!)

by the way great USA blog essjay.....Blog - http://www.moanalone.com/

cheers.....

The main thing about back protectors is that one strapped to your body is generally better than one inserted into your jacket.

The one I got from Crossans is nice, comfy and feels good. Thats about as much as I can say about it as I've one recently got it.

I got one of the BMW Enduro armour vests off Ebay for about £80. Fits under the Twat and gives much more protection - the only draw back is you can't zip the twat trousers to the twat suit without the lining in that holds the standard armour.
