what battery....?

My '07 GS still happily on it's original battery, 4 years old and counting, kept on a BMW charger though, have been expecting it to fail knowing their reputation..............the Airheads are all on Odysseys, excellent batteries if a little expensive, I will replace with an Odyssey when it dies!

The Exide batteries fail more frequently than others because they are a piece of crap, and not because they are AGM. From 2010 BMW uses Yuasa again. A wise decision, albeit a late one.

BTW. The lithium batteries as mentioned above are similar sensitive to deep discharge conditions as are the AGM's. The charging system of the GS supplies current balance at around 1,800 Upm, at 25 C and only the riding lights on. Effective charging starts around 2,500 Upm. For those who ride a lot around city areas this could mean a real problem with the low amperage of the lithiums, especially in winter time. My verdict: Nit ready for prime time, yet.

My 2010 R1200GSA has "popped" 3 batteries in the last 8 days, 2 separate dealers tested and replaced battery under warranty but it died again on my way home last night. Bike on its way back to dealer... Any ideas?

Yes - voltage regulator. Are the dealers not testing?
They may need to rig something up and ride it if it doesn't show static.

I think I mentioned before already, there are batteries in the market which are called AGM, but they are actually not. These batteries are build with standard battery technology but with vlies mats and higher concentrated acid added. These items are produced in China on the old equipment of renowned brands. This equipment can not be used for making real AGM batteries and that is why the plants were sold off. Fake AGM batteries will be gassing and therefore usually die relatively soon (probably unless someone rips the upper strip open, I have not tried that).
That’s an interesting bit of info Peter, thanks

Numax

Has anyone tried a Numax battery?

The battery on my bike has just died, caused by the recent bout of sub zero temps I guess, even though its been connected to a Optimate charger. The bike will be three years old tomorrow, so I'm a little surprised that the original battery has only survived this long.
I know that everyone says how good Odyssey batteries are, but I just cannot justify spending over £100.00 on one, when I can buy three Numax batteries, each with a two year warranty and still be saving money...!
The other option is to stick with a well known make, such as Yuasa, Varta, WestCo, etc., any of which can be bought for less than £50.00.

Then again, I will probably have changed the bike before the next battery expires?
Anyone shed any light or experience on the Numax?

Used Numax batteries in GS and 1050 Sprint no probs at all.
Both gel type as the Triunph battery lies on its side, 2 years trouble free.
But be carefull if you dont use an expensive German battery ......... ze war will be over for you Tommy Atkins.

Thanks for that, dealer has replaced alternator and voltage regulator (battery appears ok), getting bike back today...
