Hello everyone, what an amazing forum you have here, so much useful information. I’ve just registered as I plan to buy myself a lovely BMW sometime over the next 3 months. First experience I borrowed a friends BMW GS1200 for a ride and reluctantly had to hand it back. Planning a big tour of Europe starting this June. Currently riding a Yamaha XT660R, so can’t wait for a bike that doesn’t give me arse ache after an hours riding.

I’ve been reading as much info as I can about the various BMW models and I can’t decide what to go for. I’m not planning any off road riding on this trip, just want a bike that can handle a lot miles and is reliable. I’ve read a lot about various models being more reliable than others, and they seem to vary depending on the year it was manufactured. Trying to piece all this info together though is proving really tricky! Budget is 6k, looking to buy any time over the next 3 months and I’d be really grateful for any advice.

May I suggest you become a Subscriber if you're looking for a bike... there's always good ones coming up on the For Sale and Wanted...

Thats the only place I'd look for a new bike

any GS manufactured between 1997 and 2002.

you'll have plenty of cash left over to tweak the bike to your exact requirements.

Thanks for the advice. I'll keep my eye on the For Sale and Wanted forum. My local garage have a 1200GS for just over 6k, but it comes with nothing. I think i've been swayed.
