WHAT DID YOU DO TO YOUR HARLEY TODAY??

Got the gay bastard on the bike lift...No juice in the battery (Not used for over a year) Heaviest peice of shit known to man, has to be:mad:
Battery now on charge...I know, shoulda done that first, but I am impatient.

.....Might take the luton van body topbox off the back and see what it looks like:eek...I just know when I start it up, I am gonna fall in love with the sound all over again:blast
And I am thinking it might look nice in a metal flake black:rolleyes:

Knew I shouldn`t of touched the bastard.

thats the spirit..... strip off the tour pack, add a single seat, paint it black and jack the chrome..... 13" bagger apes and lowered tinted screen... viola one cool glide.....

then join us for Le Hog 2013.... won't be raining this year!

:DI might just wrap the fucker in matt black, sell all the chrome bars.....Or just paint it with underseal:D
Le Hog could work if the weather is dry:cool

Things have been a bit sloooooooow

But, i have all the parts in the garage now for the rear end rebuild...

Exhaust studs x 2
Exhaust nuts x 2
Exhaust flange circlip x1
Exhaust gasket x1
Rear Wheel Bearing oil seals x2 (Bearings ok, to be repacked)
Inner Fairing x1
L/H rear pannier mounting bracket x1 (original cracked)
Welded exhaust header x1
Recovered and remodelled single seat (Still WIP but due end of the month!)

I've been at the frame with the Hammerite.... cleaned up well...

Rear wheel polished up ok, i now have two segments in Hammerite Smooth and two in Hammerite Satin... need to finanalise and finish.

General clean up and phase one complete....

Phase one A, order 2" lip screen in black to replace lowered stock screen.

Phase two.... off to Rick at Bike Tech....

Fit inner fairing (bastard job from hell so paying somebody else to do it,..:D)
Fit 13" "Bagger" Apes
New Cables and Controls-made by Rick...
Fabricate and Fit forward controls by Rick...
sort the higher rev rough running issue (Possibly VOES)

i'm really into the Harley..... thinking of selling the GS come spring...i like the ideal of just puttling around on the HD, tent on the back.....not covering vast distances, just taking it easy.....

when i went to france on the road king ,this sept/oct ,it was the moost relaxec holidat i have had .
just cruising it was great ,i love bmw gsers ,but i dont know if ill have another one ,so much in fact i might shelve my chop project and buy a sportster for town use ,and small blasts .

I discovered just how important it is to maintain tyre pressures on a glide

The seal on HD cast wheels is poor but Avon Cobras have very stiff side walls so unless you check carefully you may get a scare at the first sharp corner :blast

i may find it cleansing just having one bike... the poor old GS hardly got a look in last year...... just 1,000 miles between MOT's the Glide was used for all my trips and Sunday rides....

Yesterday i mostly used my glide as a workbench for lots of random parts from my purple metalflake 1980 Honda CB250 as i wired in some indicators so i can get it on the road.

Changed the nearside passenger footplate ....

... for a new OEM one from v-twinmania; nice simple job :blast First remove the rubber insert, held in place by two rubber mushrooms, lots of squirt and out she pops, leaving me with a nagging "how am I going to get them back in feeling" but nevertheless progress to the two pins which fasten the plate to the bracket. Squirt, squirt, tap, tap, nothing  Remove whole unit and do it on the bench thinks I, which brings me to another HD related quandary, why don't they use consistent standard fasteners ! Most are Imperial, but this particular bolt is an 8mm Allen :eek Anyway, on the bench, more squirt and a heavier tap, nothing; into the vice and finally using the medium German spanner one lightly corroded pin is encouraged to leave :thumb The second however is quite a different matter, gallons of squirt later, significant bad language and enough application of my largest German spanner to not only dent the concrete floor, wake up a nearby owl, and cause every dog in West Devon to howl dementedly the bastard thing finally cedes its grip; refitting is a reverse of the removal process, except for the rubber mushrooms which have to be lovingly teased back through their respective holes using fishing line and a lot more swearing :augie

2 hours, half tin of Hammerite........job done!
