Ok - this is a wide open goal for the fun comments.

But I do ask a reasonable question...

I loved my 1150gs, but i didn't protect it from the salt and snot on the roads, didnt get any protection on it, so ended up watching it corrode, and then spending a lot of time and money putting it right.
I didn't heed the warnings to protect the headlight, so ended up changing the headlit twice...

So- I'm determined to look after the LC better than I did the 1150.

I've got the front crud catcher and rad grilles from mark hooton, front fender extender by pyramid, headlamp protector off another forum contributor hopefully.

I've ordered the bike with the small engine bars cos I like the look of them better than cylinder head protectors. Also ordered the plastic infill panels too.
I will be slathering the bike in ACF 50, and removing and copper slipping every fastener I can get my hands on.

What else can I reasonably do to look after it and help reduce the damage wrought by the inevitable use in snotty conditions.

Also, what's out there to reduce the muck thrown up from the back wheel?

Sounds like you've got it more than covered

Not a great fan of ACF 50 myself,Twice a year I strip as much stuff off the bike as I can and polish all metal surfaces with "Bilt Hamber autobalm"

During the winter I never put the bike away without hosing down with cold water.

I have never had any corrosion issues.

Can you get a mudsling for the new WC bikes, or is that what the infill panels are for?

Anything that keeps rear wheel spray off the rear of the engine/shock/swing arm would be a wise addition IMHO.

Just keep it in the garage and don't take it out, ever:nenau

Never....

A bike is there to be used, and im likely to ise the gs in worse weather too - but I'm determined to look after this gs better than my last one.

I use acf a lot on classic and modern cars and bikes. It really works - stops that creeping corrosion in between the engine joints etc. its safe with electrics and even smells nice

I can't seem to find a nice rear hugger either...

Only ordered 2 things....experience of my last GS. Nav4 and Panniers, forget about top box and bars, add later if you like? I never fall off or drag it down the road and have a waterproof bag. Liked my last varios and could have gone for a 660 but I think BMW know what they are doing so Nav4. :D

Pannier - ordered.

At that price though, Ill hold off the nav.
I think that BMW are asking one hell of a lot of money for the navi 4.
When you can get an iPhone 5 that does everything that the navi 4 does ( except that wheel thingy on the LH handlebar.) for less money than the nav 4, I seriously wonder if it's worth it.

I suppose it might be if you constantly need something to tell you which way to go, but for me the nav4 is a nice to have, rather than a must have.
And anyway, I still have a street pilot 3 and a 2610 that I could press into service if I felt so inclined.

Unfortunately, I'm not the riding god that you obviously are :bow and did drop my gs a couple of times, one was a big off on diesel, which cost me more than £300... So I'll be having the bars.

Most specifically, I'm interested in protection - what are the right bits to get so I'm not going to be dealing with the corrosion issues so much.
