What is end float in the context of adjusting the valve clearances?
My assumption is that it is the float on the rocker shaft, is this correct?

What's involved in checking and adjusting this? I do have the downloaded manual, but to see it in laymans language is more appealing.

Only reason I ask is that as the bike is out of warrantee, I intend to do these things myself.

Fanum, you lemon. I read this earlier, I may have missed it, but on what page does it deal with end float? I honestly don't think it is in the article.

Thanks anyway.

Hark!

I here a bottle of red calling :hapybnce:

End float adjustment isn't described in that article. Its the amount of vertical wiggle in the rockers on the rocker post. It should be set between 2 thou and 16 thou according to the book. I er on the safe side and set the float at 5 thou. That Article makes a simple task over complicated. Take the spark plugs out and put the bike in gear and rotate the wheel to rotate the engine. Use a torch or a bit of welding rod to check the piston is at TDC does't need to be that exact as long as the cams are off the lobes. It will stop you losing that silly rubber gromit. Takes about 20mins a side to do the valves and end Float. The don't seem to drift much once they are well set up. :)

Tolerence allowed is .05 up to .40 -

Undo the 3 tork bolts and one hex bolt that secures the bottom rocker support, then re-tighten just enough to hold them but lose enough to move if you tap them with a small hammer or such like. Then tap them till you get the correct amount of play.

Subtle it isn't, but thats how you adjust the end float

Setting it at the minimum allowed can help cure surging ;)

Yeah - as Steptoe sez ^^^^^

Did mine at the last service and it stops a lot of the 'agricultural' noises.
