Noticed some people have said that the music isnt loud enough...i have a set of custom molded ear plugs with built in speaker, (Headseservices.com) but when i have a pillion, i use normal ear plugs...now, if you use an ipod, if you go to www.eupod.com, you can download eupod v1.6 that allows you to boost the volume of ure pod up to the max...as they are like that as standard in the states, but eu legislation reckons it's too loud for us over here, so they come greatly reduced...and if use this, and ure ears are bleedin afterwards, then i am not responsible :o)

Actually GOPOD (http://gopod.free-go.net/index_en.htm) is much better than Eupod: it uncaps the iPod itself once and for all (until the next firmware update), while Eupod flags each file, which means you have to run it everytime you download a new file/album. Great tiny piece of software, and the sound level is at last able to cover bike/tube noise level...

Just bought the ipod mini 4gb £135 currys or dixons, had it a couple of days and have to say its a cool piece of kit .It works out at about £100 cheaper than a full size 20gb ipod but when you can store 1000 songs on it its enough for anyone , dimensions are 50mm wide,90mm high and 12mm thin and weighs just 3.6 ounces..it does what it says on the tin .:P

Dave

Now that you've had a chance to play with your new toy - does the battery life last as long as "it says on the tin", for example on a long bike journey playing continuously? And, does it charge up fairly rapidly too?

B.

i don't need no additional music - i've got an open Laser can on the 1100

what other noise could possibly be better ?

sounds like a cross between a low level Spitfire and Bonneville .

'kin lovely. :thumb

Ive got the Creative Zen Touch 20GB. Its easy to use and I get about 20-24Hrs battery life. I picked it up for £179. Well worth it.

bob..yes the new ipods are supposed to run upto 18hrs as opposed to 8hrs on the old versions .I turn off the backlight and realistically get 10+ hrs out of the thing and takes just 1 hr to put an 80 % charge back in .

I have a confession ...I might have misled people :(

Sorry chaps/chapesses, but although I still rate my Zen gizmo, I'd have to say DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK if you're intending on using it on a bike.

I'm on my third.....it's because the hard drive is too wobbly to take the vibrations.....

First off I tried it in a steel box under my rack, wrapped in bubble wrap...it failed with a jammed hard drive so I took it back and got another.

Next I put it in a soft bag on my handlebars, wrapped it in bubble wrap and stuck a sheet of bumpy foam under it.....it failed with a jammed hard drive.

Luckily the transfer rate from the PC to the Zen is awesome, so it only takes a short time to dump all my music back on it, but I have to wonder if a hard drive equipped MP3 player is actually any good on a bike, with 2620's and now Zens going tits up.

It's a bloody nice bit of kit, and as long as I keep it in my jacket pocket while riding it works well, but that means I have another lead joining me to the bike....and that's a PITA.

Pissed off??

Yes.

That's where I keep it now Phil.....seems to be fine there.

I think it must be more sensitive to vibration when lying down flat or at an angle ....I never had a problem with it before in my jacket pocket vertically and it went across the sahara in a bleedin bouncy landy in a verticle pouch....both the ones that have failed have been lying flat.

Its probably due to the gyroscopic precession forces bieng multiplied in a non-axial direction and upsetting the read heads.
Hard drives spin quite fast these days.

Also - it won't see any vibration in your pocket.

I have just fitted a v small "creative" MuVo n200 MP3 and radio via auto com. very good. they come in various memory sizes to 1 gig mines a 512mb.

it is the size of a fag lighter and comes with a silicone / soft plastic holder with a clip on the back this i have attached to the left bar so it is protected by the fluid res. with 2 cable ties. dead easy to fit and remove and as long as the autocom helmet speakers are well positioned the sound is good.
the controls are workeable with a gloved hand even in its holder
and at about £90 worth a look
