I am currently running windows 98second edition, and it is crashing like mad, so I am thinking of upgrading to XP pro. What is the likely cost and what should I look out for, and what are the alternatives.

Has it only started crashing recently? It may be something you have loaded that is causing a problem rather than 98.

its been crashing on and of for 3 years now just getting worse, and mor anoying, no new programmes, no viruses.

XP Pro is great, very reliable.

Just make sure your pc is up to it. A fast processor and plenty of RAM and XP is very enjoyable. A Pentium II with 16Mb RAM will make it a pain.

well worth upgrading if your pc is up to it.

XP home is perfectly adequate for most ppl. it costs about £80 as an upgrade to win 98.

XP pro is somewhat more expensive.

Windows XP

Make sure if you upgrade to XP that your Viruscan and firewall software is up to date. I just upgraded from ME but nobody told me ME and below was immune to the blaster virus which only affects XP,NT and 2000.
