I have ordered a new 12GS for September and wanted to know what sort of price my dealer should be quoting me if I add them onto my order.
Do they charge more for coded keys as well?

Stock answer

The instant answer I got back was £1000. However, I got a discount becuase it was no deal without the panniers and it was already fitted with brackets. Lock programming is included. I would try to get a set off ebay then take them along to the dealers and get the locks done.

Or you could of course get a whole set of Metal Mules for £1000. In very nice dark grey powder coated too.

I just (1 week ago) took delivery of a new 1200 GS with panniers, top-box etc, and it all came to about £770 or so. This was for panniers, box, mountings, backrest pad for box, etc. Coded locks were included. I got a bit of a deal anyhow because I ordered and let them register the bike on the last day of June (helped their figures:rolleyes: ), which gave me a discount of almost £700, so it meant the luggage was virtually thrown in.:D

?? BMW panniers are £300 and something maybe £400 tops and included them cutting the key barrel to match your existing key, - Well that's about the price I was given by my dealer, think you new bike buyers may be being taken for a ride, and it's not a test ride.

Don't pay more for coded locks - you can do it yourself if necessary. Take a look at the 'Useful links' above, under Technical Info. It works - I recoded the lock on a 2nd hand top box without any problems.

I was quoted £400 for panniers, keys etc, just last month.

And John Clark in Dundee is or was doing a deal, buy a new 1200 get panniers FREE.

That's right - my panniers were priced at £3-400, then the top-box, fittings and backrest pad etc, was another £300 or so. Fortunately my discount wiped all of that out.

And another reply, bought ex demonstrator last week and paid £697.69 for panniers, top box, mounting plate all with coded locks and got the 3 panniers bags for free!

I suspect the 'onorable members of this forum would actually be doing you a much bigger favour by telling you not to rush in and buy the overpriced, under-specced BWM panniers than they would be telling you what they were unlucky enough to pay for these things.

If you want to use your increased buying power to spunk some money towards your dealer, buy a decent riding suit....dont FFS waste the discount power (that you actually seem to have spectacularly not got  ) on panniers..there are far better, stronger and cheaper boxes out there :thumb

Take a look at the FAQ section as a start........

Quite right

Having just got all three bits of luggage, whilst it is nice to open all bits on the bike with the same key, they are undoubtedly the most expensive bits of plastic known to man. Perhaps I should have gone down the Metal Mule route.

Panniers

Just bought my new 1200, and paid £380 fitted coded etc. i think that this is pretty near to cost. I did not sign the order until I had got the dealer down to this reasonable ammount!

Been watching fleabay prices since I have BMW vario panniers surplus to requirements (reverse of you - panniers but no bike!). Anyway, the going price seems to be about £300. Which doesnt make a lot of sense if you can get them from your dealer for £300. My guess is that you cant.

quoted 408 quid at rainbow yesterday for panniers and locks, keys coded free inner bags 65 each side
