What size is the allen key for telelever pivot bolt? Haven't got that size so I'll have to order one

If you're talking about the one at the front it's a 7 I think you will also need a open sided socket to get the Allen key in to while you torque the telelever nut .
Hope this helps

12mm if it's the same as my 1150. You'll also need one of these:

Removed my swing arm for first time a few weeks back and this is what I did without buying any more tools...
Once you've got the locking nut(30mm iirc) off, the pin is not particularly tight. I used a 12mm bolt and locked a couple of nuts together on the threads. Use the head as your Allen key and socket/spanner on locked nuts. Obviously better to configure it so you can use socket to allow use of torque wrench for re assembly.
When refitting carefully mark pin position relative to frame to check it hasn't moved once locking nut is torqued up.

I may have described that wrong. I mean the pivot bolt for front swinging arm If I can call it that, behind the forks.

Now you've confused me. Looking at the manual and the parts fiche, that's not an allen bolt. :duno

Nope, you’ve described it perfectly . It’s the telelever. It’s not your problem that people jump in and start describing how to remove and adjust the paralever.

no6 unscrewed ok, but What is number 3 in the second pic? is it some sort of cover that needs an Allen key?

Telelever/paralever potato/potaatoe. Only one of them has an allen bolt, I think? :P

Yes I did thank you. It seems to be a screw cap that needs a large Allen key to remove it. I might try the bolt option that SGT.cupid mentioned but I'd rather an Allen key, it's well stuck

Do you have calipers or a steel rule? You could measure it. I'll go & check mine if you like, but I'm not sure the 1150's the same. Mr Steptoe will know for sure.

Parts fiches here - put the last 7 digits of your VIN in the search box :thumb https://www.realoem.com/bmw/en/select

I'll measure it but SGT.cupid used a 12m bolt so that will be the size. Thanks for your help

If you like riding your bike at weekends and want to ride it down the A1 as far as the A14 then another 6 miles west I’ll give you a 12mm Allen key. In fact ride down this afternoon and you can do the job tomorrow :D

Edit: just to clarify that; when I say give I mean to keep, not borrow and get someone whinging about wanting it back 2 days later.

Here’s the cap requiring an Allen key. The spindle underneath runs through the engine case, don’t forget to remove the circlip
