HELP! Last night I took the battery out of my 1150GS, topped up the cells with new Distilled water, and put the battery on charge overnight. This morning, replaced batt into bike, started it up, but now it's not running very well. In fact, it's quite poorly! It sounds very lumpy at tickover, and when I try to pull away, it just stalls and tries to spit me off (Good job I'm bigger than most!) At standstill, if I rev the engine, it's definitely not smooth, and won't run up linear like it did before, feels like there's a fuel blockage until around 3000rpm, then it takes off as if blockage is cleared.

Can anyone offer any advice, before I get a nice bill from those nice people at BMW?!?!?!?!?

Pleeeeeease? :nenau

Did you take the tank off?

Did you dislodge the throttle cable?

Common problem apparently:nenau

Not quite....

I lifted it up so as to get the battery in and out. The throttle still works, it feels more like a fuel line/electrical problem to me...but then thats why I'm asking for help!!!!:tears

It may also need the motronic reset.

If you do a search there is a way by removing fuse number 5 and opening the throttle fully a couple of times.

When I did a search it threw up a lot of different ways so you need to read through them.

I had problems abroad when my additional lights blew and it also blew the motronic fuse no 5 and it was running rough untill I did the reset.

PROBLEM SORTED!!!!

Guys, as always, you lot are a font of knowledge!!!

As predicted, the throttle cable sleeve wasn't seated correctly. Popped it in, started her up, and Robert's your father's brother!

She's up and running, good to go. Now I'm gonna have to wait for the temperature to rise above 5 degrees C to go out on her again. Bloody German winters......!

Thanks for your help guys, much appreciated.

5 c!,

Get out on yer bike, GS men are supposed to be tough guys! have alook at the adventure bikers web site, riding through snow in Alaska.
dave (by the fire) GS.

Yeah, full of good ideas like that!!!

At least with a set of off road tyres, you could probably grip in the snow..... Tourances on greasy german roads hovering just over 0 degrees, with the Polizei just waiting to fine you for causing them to take a break from eating donuts and sauerkraut........

I'll wait til March, when I'm posted back to Blighty,Ta!!!:beerjug:
