What the heck is this noise from my rear end

Guess your seals has worn out. You can get a seal just search on the yellow page for O-Rings or Seal suppliers.

Well having had the unit rebuilt and after 600 miles or in my case 1000km the noise has now come back exactly the same as before, wtf gives, no oil leaks all BMW parts used even down to the case screws to say i am pissed off is an understatement. I am now thinking of getting a used unit and maybe another drive shaft (the shaft looks in great shape btw but you never know), if take the weight off the bike i.e jack it up the noise disappears until next time I ride it

So i came across this video on youtube

which is the same sound as mine, looks like the crown wheel was worn on his bike causing the bearings to be pushed out of line thus making the noise I think.

I do appreciate it's not a GS but it's pretty much the same unit up until 2010 ish when I believe BMW chnaged the design to include a vent and run bearings in oil, ultimately I have bought a used unit which I am now waiting on

New / used drive unit arrived this week after a 200 km test ride last night all seems to be ok
