Gents, ladies...off to the states for a holiday in the new year. What would you recommend getting as a superb bargain? I would get an Aerostitch suit but I'm quite happy with my current kit, so there is no need.

I was thinking that there might be some gadgets or clothing (in the market for motocross boots ready for BMW Off road weekend) I could pick up cheap. And ideas?

If you do see the light and decide to go with the Aerostich take into account that their turnround time is 6 weeks for production of a suit.

Check out the Olympia Phantom suit which is also worth bringing back. :thumb

If you want a GPS they are half the UK price - my Garmin 60CSX was about £180.

Neck coolers are worth getting - haven't seen them over here, great for riding in the heat.

Camelbaks are also half the price, as are PIAA spot lamps.

Most stuff is available through Amazon if you have somewhere you can deliver to at the other end.

Careful with GPS as wouldn't they come preloaded with US maps.

Jeans, new Levis £15 :D
normal clothes are an excellent buy

don't bother with iPods, unless you're really mean, only about £10 cheaper.

If I was going, I would look for a good deal on a National Steel Guitar:guitarist

i too have a gpsmap60csx from the usa. comes with US basemap, but no routing mapping like city navigator. that can be obtained later (google "jetmouse") :augie

ditto euro basemap.

Check out the website for CycleGear - they are a chain of shops with lots of locations to get an idea of the best value gear. Hopefully you might have a shop near you to go and spend some $$

www.cyclegear.com

I picked up a Frank Thomas leather jacket at around 50% off earlier this year.

I don't think that all the stores carry all the range so worth checking before you go.

usa

If you want any thing look in Walmart, they have a lot of camel packs all sizes and a bit of motorcycle gear. bell helmets at a good price as well, while your there you can also pick up a .45 magnum and play dirty harrys!!. You will find bmw gear dearer, at least this is what I've found bikes are dearer,
(import tax, 3 year warrenty etc), But, harlys are cheaper!. (I'll just go and
thrash myself for that remark but you could always but one and sell it over here though possibly not on this site!.).

These Jackets (not bike) represent fantastic value, the quality is superb, I know because I've got 2 of them and they cost me a lot more when I bought a few years ago than you can get them now. The company will only deliver to a US address though.

I've got a Horse hide and a Goatskin (why is the one a hide and the other skin:nenau)

Now why am I not surprised:rolleyes:

Clothing is so much cheaper over there and great value. I bought some Timberland Jodphur (Dealers) boots for £15 and they are £95 over here. Levis for peanuts, Nautica gear is also very cheap. I would look for small things such as IPods, Camera, Sun Glasses etc...

Have fun by the way...

MSR multifuel stoves are well cheap over there, as are most computer bits, have fun.

louisville slugger probably the finest baseball bat available to man:thumb

The US$ dipped below the 2-1 mark today with the futures indicating lower. Still cheap though...... :blast

I'd be bringing back a suit case full of Airhawks then sticking them on e-bay :D

At $2 to the pound you can't go far wrong :thumb2

I was over in the States a few years ago,I got chatting to a Scottish guy on the plane ,he basically filled his case with Harley dealer T shirts .When he got home he sold them doubling his money and paying for his ticket.

GPS base maps - I wouldn't worry too much about these as they are pretty crap anyway. You'll be forking out for proper garmin maps if you want decent navigation capabilities.

The odd ipod or two should help towards your ticket.

I suggest that before you go make a list of the things you want, check out the prices on Amazon.com and .co.uk to get an initial comparison and then take a spare suitcase for all the other stuff you find when you are out there:D

Cyclegear was indeed great. Bought a pair of Alpinestar Tech 3 for £75. Just about fit in the suitcase. Bargain. Also some Crusty Demon DVDs and some Oakley O Frames. Sweet.
