You'll get all the answers you want on here and the engine's are bulletproof, if well maintained

Cheers Johnny, saw your report on your new PD on the other side BTW....

Am looking maybe for an older one though and bullet proof is important to me.

Had a KLR600 a long time ago but sold it due to motorway work. I now live a long way from any motorway so it could be a good bike for me.

Great bikes!...I have a 2001 model (last of the Funduros) and have been miles on it. Great MPG, fun to ride, handles very well and engine is simple to repair if it ever needs it! Its also very comfortable to ride I think and I wont be selling mine for quite a while (unless I won loads of money)

Ive got a '94 funduro

its comfortable,economical and handles well.

usual lookouts........chain ,sprockets, crash damage ,oil pressure..............its a bugger to check the oil levels and some folk get it wrong...:)

they are rarely ridden like a sportsbike but many newbies have them as thier firs 'big' bike so neglect can creep in

if i wasnt hell bent on a 1150 gs i would never sell mine

Two important things to look for after a test ride is ....

Oil dribbling on the floor - check the sump plug - can easily be down to stripped threads on tighteing up

Coolant dribbling on the floor from the nearside... or cloudy oil can mean the mechanical seal has gone on the water pump - a common fault on 30k plus machines and easily repaired.

Also check the head bearings as over heated oil can melt the grease away.

Check the rear end for stiffness as this can mean badly maintained bearings. - Another small job to replace.

Also check lights for consistent brightnness as the wiring harness can be a bit flaky on the early ones. A matter of checking connections and cleaning or reinforcing with solder.

Apart from that a simple ans easily maintained bike , that is loads of fun to ride... aksherlly we have two for sale - his 'n hers :)
