what would be the best tent ?

For 2 people, the idea is to have something that would fit inside a 1200GS BMW luggage...
Any ideas ?

I got one of these a couple of years ago - primarily cos it packs down tiny and fits easily on the bike. Not cheap but it's lasted very well indeed and is good for 2 people, as it has 2 entrances/porches.

"Blacks" have always done it for me. I bought my first one (a "Good companion major") in 1977 and I still use it. My second, smaller one which packs small enough for the bike is a "Storm Shield".

North Face Tadpole fits in a 12GS pannier.....although its a tiny tent it still takes up a lot of room though.

Vango Hydra 200+

two persons 4 seasons, fits into panniers I think (not got panniers myself), but it is 11 litres packed, and weighs a tad under 4Kg.

I think the chepaest retail is about £150.

But I just happen to have a mate who bought one a few weeks ago but after having spent the money has bought an even lighter 4 seasons tent for backpacking.

Look it up on the web if you are interested let me know and i'll see if he wants to sell the 200+.

Tent looked reasonable and packed size was 40cm x 14cm

I've got an Asgard tent from the Boy Scouts. 4 season octagon shaped and fits three adults snug so two is easy. Packs perfectly into the 40 ltr side, using a compression bag, with room for a self-inflatable mattress and rods.

The best purchase to go with any tent is a compression bag. I bought a bunch of compression bags in the off season and the gear I packed last summer that required a 50 ltr top bag in the passenger seat is no longer required.

2nd best purchases are stuff that minimizes gear and amounts of gear. Stuff pocket sized stoves, mini headlamps, self dry shirts, shorts etc.

I spent about $50 on this stuff and saved myself buying a top box.

I have 2 tents, a 3 man which entitles me to camp with the (not so exclusive) McKinley club at GS events and a 1 man Coleman Viper.

If I'm having a static weekend I take the 3-man Khyam McKinley which gives me plenty of space to get everything off the bike and call it home for 2-3 nights.

If I'm touring and they are overnight stops then the 1 man Coleman is just the job, everything stays on the bike and in the tent go I, bedding and some clothes.

If you go the very recently popular here route of a tarp then a small tent is fine, otherwise consder something big enough to seperate you from a wet storage area. If you are going to attend GS events you need to get used to inclement weather, we've been known to experience some over the years

Thanks, I finally purchased this Jamet tent :

It does not fit the BMW pannier (2 to 3 centimeters too long I think) but it fits perfectly the back of my Givi Maxia.
