I currently have an SV650s which is really just for fun, but fancy getting something a bit more upright for some longer journeys and possibly summer commuting.

So I'm am looking into buying a 790cc F650GS as a second bike, but I'm only 5'2". My legs are quite long but this means my body is short. So would I be better getting one with a factory lowered suspension or the low seat option?

My local dealer has 2 for sale, one factory lowered and one low seat so I can get them to swap seats to try the lowered suspension AND low seat on the same bike, but unfortunately I'm unable to do a test ride at the moment as I'm on crutches.

I think you've answered your own question there......wait until you can ride safely, then go try them out, see which option you feel is best.

There are plenty of short-arses around who ride 11xx or even 1200s as well....

Wear a pair of MX style boots when you try it....the more rigid soles will let you put more force down through your toes, effectively adding an inch or two of height IYSWIM.

Good luck :thumb2

Hyper pro also do a shortened spring kit. I fitted it to my F800 and it made the difference between tip-toes and flat fotted for me. 5'8" with 30" inseam...

as fanum said, why even waste typing, ?go to the dealers, try the bikes, up to you, no one else

Short arse

Have a friend your size and he's on his third Honda CBF1000, fits him well and in 100,000 miles has never had a spot of bother. The seat takes fifteen minutes to adjust to the low setting, loads about and well priced.

Out of all the Lowered bikes offered by BMW the only one my Wife 5'2" could put both feet on the floor believe it or not was the 1200 RT.:nenau
So I would try that first.

If your legs are long you'll need some room for them, so that they are not too bent. Maybe try both the standard seat and lowered seat on a factory-lowered bike. The standard seat would keep the relationship between saddle and footpegs the same, while keeping the bike low.
I honestly doubt you'll run out of ground clearance, which is the typical male (macho?) argument against the lowered bikes. I don't think the Suzuki will get much of a look-in once you have the BeeEmm.
Possibly somewhat to BMW's surprise despite the obvious intention, the F650GS is the most popular "F"-series variant.
