Whats the best way to fit Clamshell light unit to non standard forks

Hi

I'm refitting the clamshell light unit to my 89 100GS.

Is it just a matter of;

Cutting and bending some alley plate up to connect to the yokes.

Bolt the clamshell unit to the plate via rubber spacers.

I guess some means of up / down adjustment would be good.

What did you do?

also, sorry I don't really know whether to start another tread, Left hand side cover, is it possible to obtain a cut back version, one that does away with the exhaust cover bit? or is it a matter of leave off or cut a perfectly good full side cover.
